Question about LG 16x Internal Blu-ray Disc/ HD DVD Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Drive

1 Answer

Yesterday afternoon I was using my computer and all of a sudden the lights went off. When it came back, my CD/DVD drive was not working anymore. I tried putting in different cds and dvds, but the light indicator blinks a few times and then stops.

If this is a floppy disk then run a disk cleaner and then try to read disk. If it is a CD or DVD om Drive then buy a good CD/DVD cleaner disc and run it on your computer.

My New Gateway isn't recognizing the cd/dvd drive :(

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

To your concern, two possible ways to correct:
  • download and merge cdgon.reg and EditReg from here. It is a zipped file, extract and read instruction in the READ ME FIRST.txt; or
  • manually edit the registry. Open "Regedit", go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and delete the entries "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"; Exit and reboot.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Read only cd-r not dvd

Have the same problem, it used to work and suddenly it wont do it anymore. I guess this is due to windows XP updates. Windows says that the driver is up to date and I also installed the latest firmware. I am using Nero 7 to burn. I had troubles before but somehow fixed it. Now when I insert a DVD (data) and try to open the dvd drive the whole computer hangs. The content shows for a moment before the computer freezes so it IS in the DVD.
