My internet connection was fuzzy when I had a bandwidth restriction on it. I live in Portland and use Clear wireless internet (www.clear.com/utm_source=bc) and I was using their “Occasional” package that gave me something like 2G of usage a month. I switched to “Unlimited” and I haven’t had any problems. Have you checked with your ISP to see if you have bandwidth restrictions?

Hey dadof9,

Depending on how you normally connect to the internet, the cause of this problem may vary.

If you have high-speed internet service through a company like Time Warner or Comcast and have a physical wire running from your computer to the router, you may want to make sure that your internet connection is set to use a local area network connection. In Windows XP this can generally be done by clicking on the "Tools" link at the top of any Internet Explorer page, selecting "Internet Options" from the drop-down menu, then clicking on the "Connections" tab in the window that opens. You'll want to make sure that your connection type is set to "Never dial a connection," or your computer will continue to look for the internet using a dial-up modem.

Should your home use a wireless network instead, your computer may not be able to access the internet if the network is WEP or WPA/WPA2-encrypted, your computer has not been added to the router's MAC filters yet, your computer has the incorrect DNS settings, or if the computer isn't able to pick up the wireless router's signal.

Addressing problems with WEP or WPA encryption, MAC filters and DNS settings generally does require some home networking knowledge, so if you're not quite sure how to adjust these you may want to speak with your internet service provider (ISP) for more information. Many ISP's are able to provide step-by-step, over the phone support and troubleshooting for networking issues, and may even be able to send a technician to your home to help you get things up and running again.

Signal problems however, can prove to be a little more difficult to remedy. If you live in an area with a high concentration of wireless network devices (or own several others yourself), you may be receiving interference from the other wireless devices in your neighborhood. Typically, changing the channel on which a wireless device broadcasts will improve this type of situation, but there are no guarantees that your neighbors aren't thinking the same thing. Additionally, how homes are constructed may interfere with a wireless connection. While surfaces such as wood and plaster do not cause much interference, any metallic, brick or stone surface may cause a significant loss in signal strength.

Please keep in mind that these are by no means the only reasons why you would not be able to establish an internet connection, and that your best bet is to generally contact your ISP if you have any doubts. Third party technicians (such as Geek Squad® agents) may charge you for any services rendered, though many ISP’s will provide networking services for their subscribers free of charge.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Installed XP to my emachine EL1850G-42W, cant get connect with internet, what's the model of it enthernet controller?

HI.
Your eMachines computer has an integrated network card, not a pci type of card.

It is a 10/100/100 network, so it will work well with both personal and business class internet services at high speeds.

Now, if you wish to go wirelessly to the internet, then you will need to get a wireless network adapter.

Those usually go for around 30-40 dollars at WalMart.

I hopre that this is what you were wanting to know, and good luck to you.

Do I need Wi-Fi to get on the internet on my Acer E-Machines E725/E525 Notebook Laptop Computer. I bought a wireless router and a wireless USB and neither one of them or working even when I put the CD's in...

IF you do NOT have DSL, "but I do not have DSL" (sic) then you must connect up to the internet, via a MODEM, the phone line connects to the Modem, the MODEM connects to the PC via Ethernet cable. Then you use the Connect to internet Wizard. You will need to enter your login and password, for your ISP, so you will be able to access the internet. You also must enter the ISP's PHONE Number to Dial up, FIRST, then you must enter your login, and password. Then you will connect up to your ISP, and be able to go onto the internet through them. That's it, really.

Very possible you don't have the correct ethernet driver. Try looking up the driver off the manufacturer of you computers website. It will be listed as a "network driver". Good luck!

How to install raspppoe connection in vista

Hi,

The trick with XP also woks eith VISTA too.
Try the following in vista, you will succeed.

If you're using a RAS / PPPOE connection for Internet, and wish to automatically connect to your ISP at startup, you may use Rasdial utility which is built-in.

Usage: Open a Command Prompt window and type:

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" "password"

This would initiate a dial-up/PPPoE connection to your ISP.
You can create a batch file with the above parameters and place it in your Startup folder, so that vista dials to your ISP automatically at every startup.
If you don't prefer to enter the password in the batch file, use the following command-line (vista will prompt you for a password - secure)

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" *

NOTE: Type Rasdial.exe /? in the Command Prompt to learn more about this command, it's other parameters.

Hope my info helps you,
Thanx for using fixya,
Cheers.

If u want to connect means u have to turnoff the automatic updates in ur computer.. My best suggestion is u buy a laptop with preloaded OS..
