Question about LG 32LC7D Television

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 32LG3000 HD tv with software version 3.47.1. I just bought a Humax FoxT2 HD free view box but when connected via hdmi to the LG tv a message briefly comes up on the tv saying invalid format and the screen remains black. I have updated the Humax software version to 1.01.12 but still no joy. Am I right in thinking that the LG tv may be running an earlier version of hdmi that could be fixed with a software update? The tv hasn't had an arial attached for ages as I currently use a virgin media box for tv so I guess the software won't have auto updated. Not sure when or how often OTA updates are available though. I emailed LG support but they just said it sounds like the two devices arnt compatible which isn't much of an answer if you ask me. Anyway, any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Mark Oh yes, I tried a virgin HD box through hdmi to my tv and this worked fine by the way.

Update: I phoned LG today and asked for a firmware update for the TV and they are sending me out a CD with it on. So here's hoping it will fix it...

I , would try using another ( alternative connection) from your humax , say the scart cable just to see if it , the humax is ok. then if tv has more than 1 hdmi skt try it too, if still not working retry upgrade firmware route

Cheers for the quick reply. I have tried the humax with scart and it works fine. I have also tried it via hdmi with a Sony hd tv and it works fine...and I have also tried all the hdmi sockets but no joy. I'm hoping that a firmware update to the tv might solve it but have no idea how to get the update file or when one might be transmitted OTA. It's very frustrating as it seems crazy that the tv doesn't recognize what's coming down the hdmi cable.

I have a lg 2540 soundbar connected to my 37inch lg tv. Soundbar works fine on all channels, with the exception of all the HD ones. My tv is connected to a Humax satellite box. Any ideas please.

Maybe the HD channels do not support showing the sound bar via a satellite box connection. Call the manufacturer of the box and inquire with them.

My youview has taken over my humax channels

Put BT box into standby. This is probably due to the scart connection. Try to connect both boxes via HDMI if possible.

I have skyhd connected to Lght-805sh via optical connection but when i turn sky over from a hd channel to normal channel there is no sound

Hi,

Not sure what you mean by "optical connection" but you need to connect your SkyHD box to your TV using both HDMI and SCART cables. Your Sky HD box will then send the signal via the HDMI cable for the HD channels and the SCART cable for the SD channels.

Hope this helps

Hi,

You didn't fully expain how each device is connected to the others. I don't think you have this set up correctly. Your DVD cannot record in HD so there is no point sending an HD signal to it - it can't process it. This is how I would set it up:

1. Install a 2-way splitter on the input cable
2. Connect output 1 from the splitter to the Humax receiver
3. Connect the Humax receiver to the TV with an HDMI cable
4. Connect output 2 from the splitter to the DVD
5. Connect the DVD to the TV with SCART cable.

This will enable you to watch HDTV via the digital receiver and also provide an input from source (dish/cable) to your DVD player so that you can record.

If you've already set it up this way then it should work. I suspect you've connected the Humax to the DVD and TV and also the DVD to the TV.

Please try this setup and post back if you need further assistance.

The HDMI on the DVD wil be outbound only I suspect. There is a utility available on the internet called TwinRIP which enables you to copy the files off the Humax onto a PC so they can be burnt to aq DVD

When changing channels, the TV goes black for several seconds

It's a "Bug" in the firmware version 1.2 which is what your receiver uses. Be thankful you have audio and video 100% (even with a delay) The current version 1.3b is functional 100% of the time (so far) The HDMI issue you have can be fixed by a service center authorized by Yamaha under warranty ( if it still is) and they will upgrade the board and software to work with all the current versions. Out of warranty; it's a pricey ordeal. It's not Yamaha's fault or that of any other manufacturer which provides HDMI switching. It's the ongoing battle between the recording industry, and the consumer demand for "choice" It's a "Copyright" issue... Anyway, if it's still under warranty you can send it out free of charge and get it fixed. Otherwise, run your cable directly to the TV with HDMI and use digital coaxial for audio to your receiver. If you need more info, google "HDMI forums" and you can get the whole scoop from all sides involved. Hope this helps
