Need to know how to replace screen protector shield
I had an accident when my son and I were horsing around throwing toys and one hit the screen protector on the television cracking it. I need to know how to change it properly. It seems that the silver edging would pop off, but I am afraid of breaking it. I tried to unscrew all of the surrounding screws on the back, but still could not get to the area I need. Can anyone help? Thanks!
Re: Need to know how to replace screen protector shield
You have to take off the speaker grill on the front... it just pops off, it's a little unnerving yanking on it but it will come off with a little force. Then there are similar screws on the front of it.

these tvs have 3 screens, 2 functonal, and the 3rd is just a screen protector. mitsubishi makes them so you can remove the protector to eliminate glare if you want, and its customer removable. if this is the only one that cracked, remove it and you will actually have a better picture. you just need a small flat head screwdriver. pry of the little plastic pieces at the top and bottom (some are on sides) that hold the screen in. its just held in on 2 sides, and then you flex it to get it out. if it cracked into the 2 screens behind the protector, you've got bigger issues and the repair could get expensive. contact your local mits service center for quotes, but the screens are atleast 100 each, just for parts. let me know if i can be of further assistance.
Unless you have small children it's better to just remove the diamond shield and throw it away. Less glare on the screen that way. But if you must have a new one go to a local glass shop and have a piece of plexiglass cut to the dimensions of the old one. We do that all the time and it works fine. Usually runs around $60.00.
I have the same tv and I took my clear shield off and never put it back on. The picture is much better without it as it will reflect light and objects in the room making it difficult to see the pic clearly. I was told by a service tech that the primary purpose of the glass or shield is to prevent damage to the screen from objects, water etc. If you have no small children in the home you can enjoy a better pic.
my son cracked our screen protector and instead of paying two or three hundred dollars to replace it we had plexy glass cut at Lowes and put velcro striping around the edges and looked as good as the original and has held up great for five years now.
Yes there are several and the ones I am posting for you have been used by folks who I know. You will most likely need to get the telephone number and call around, and they will probably need the exact dimensions of the screen good Luck
