In addition to that you can also check the LED lights namely 1,2,3 and 4. in front from which you can determine what is causing no post (Power On Self Test).

There are a few questions that I need to ask?

- Which of the combination LED Lights that are lit up?

- Are you hearing any beeping sound whenever you tried turning the computer on?

- Have you disconnected all non essential cables except the keyboard, monitor and mouse?

HI,

A blinking amber light means that there is a problem with the power supply or the motherboard. I know that could be a number of things. Perhaps you could give some additional information.

1) Does the green light come on on the motherboard?
2) Do any/all of the fans work? Power supply or computer cooling.
3) Do you get any other lights? CD/DVD player?

You may have to get someone to see if your power supply outputs are all good.

I hope that gives you some starting points.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Do you have any other indications: fans running, HDD light or CD/DVD lights, diagnostic lights on the front panel?

Do you know how to check the power supply outputs?

You have at least 2 fans: (1) in the front of the CPU. You should be able to see or feel it working. (2) The other would be in the power supply. Make sure it is running too.

If you have a multimeter you can check the voltages fairly easy. Here's a Youtube video that gives a good idea how.

Also Roadfox and I both asked about the diagnostic lights. There are 4 of them on the front of the computer between the usb ports and the headphone and mic jacks. Any of these come on at all?

If the amber light is flashing then your motherboard could be the issue. I would recommend that you check the plugs connected to your hard drive or any other devices. The issue could be the motherboard refusing to turn on because of a loose connection.

Hi, on most Dells a flashing amber light on the power button indicates a problem with the PSU or a short on the main power rail, if this is the case you should have 2 flashing lights as well, 1 & 3.

E system 1212 Laptop won't switch on. Power

Laptops are so integrated that usually a system failure that involves power issues such as in your case where you cant get it turn on with anything on the screen mean the mainboard (motherboard) is damaged. This usually leads to buying a new laptop or paying for the board to be replaced which usually costs as much as the laptop.

Amber light on front of laptop flashes.

The Battery indicator LED is to the right of the power LED. Flashing AMBER indicates a fault with the Battery. To resolve, replace the system battery.

My pc turn on before I press the switch button. Then after it starts. It wasn't able to log-in in windows. Instead, the monitor turn off automatically then the orange or amber light is flashing. I'm glad...

Hi,
If the front Light is flashing amber, the systems power supply has gone bad. Request you to replace the power supply and the front I/o panel and power switch . The issue would be resolved.

Thanks

Is the amber light flashing on the monitor?

If so, you should get your power supply checked.
