I found the same problem occured to me.'After the first download you have to disconnect the cable let the unit reboot and run for a few mins then reconnect for a further download. Had to do this twice and now my 1700 and my 1470 both work great.
Hope this helps

How do you reset a Magellan 1700 GPS?

FAQ on your unit says this.

Depending on the power switch your unit was designed with follow the instructions below:

Slide Switch If your unit has a Slide power switch then slide and hold the power switch in the off position for more than 8 seconds.

Push Down Power Button If your unit has a Push Down Power Button for a Reset pin hole on the bottom or on either side of the unit. Take a pin or an end of a paperclip and insert it into the hole and push in until you feel it pop slightly, hold it for 10 seconds. Your unit will reset itself.

Reset Power Switch If your unit has a Reset Power Switch then it will have a three position power switch (Reset, Off, On), if this is the case slide the switch to the reset position and hold it for 10 seconds to perform the reset.

If that doesn't work, contact them direct. sometimes they have to install clean firmware.

My gps Magellan road mate 1700 has this lap top and usb cable connected to a gps on the screen and does not reboot?I have plugged to my computer and try several things but nothing happen.

On the Magellan units (I have one) for updates you have to pay or buy one on most models--I know it says free updates but I found the only way was to purchase one.

After dowloaldin and then uploading an update for my Magellan roadmate 1700, iwas instructed to reset the unit and allow it to reboot. All I get now when I power on is the reboot screen and it never starts...

tim if you havent already sent your unit into magellin i have a 5 min fix for you.
1) plug in your magellin
2) when the auto play option pops up on your computer, click open folder to view files
3) double click the app folder
4) find FirmwareReleaseVersion.dll and delete it.
now just simply unplug your roadmate 1700 reset it and plug it back in to your compter and re download the updates. you will start with version 2.77 then version 3.11 and it should work.

Can't get main screen, just get systems details

if your lucky, all it will need is a reset. start the unit and using a paper clip, insert it in the small hole on the side. if that fails, try the update using the Magellan link below...follow the update directions carefully. you must register your unit on the magellan site to download the update.

if neither solution works, id say the digitizer is bad (the touch screen) but the update normally cures this problem!

let me know if you need further help!

Maestro 4250 frozen after incomplete 2009 map up date

I had same problem on 3/28/09.

According to Magellan and other people who have experienced the same problem, this is terminal to the unit. It can be caused by downloading the 08/09 Magellan map upgrade, which can cause the unit to permanently lock up. Magellan is well aware of the problem, and should offer to replace your unit if you have the problem. If you elect to have it repaired, Magellan can download the map upgrade for you in the repair process. Here is a site noting the same problem: http://74.125.93.104/search?q=cache:pNLjGT-i4-sJ:forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D8958+magellan+4250+gps+stays+on+blue+screen&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Questions for Magellan: 1) why would they sell, in 2009, gps units with old 2007 maps loaded in them, requiring the purchaser to buy a current map, and 2) if there is a problem with downloading the current maps, why is there not an advisement or warning to the installer.

Other than replacing the unit, there appears to be no "fix".

Touch screen probs

if your lucky, all it will need is a reset start the unit and using a paper clip, insert it in the small hole on the side. if that fails, try 2.62 3.61 update using the Magellan link below...follow the update directions to the letter..this update is huge (1.75GB) and takes about 45 minutes to install so be patient. you must register your unit on the magellan site to download the update.

if neither solution works, id say the digitizer is bad (the touch screen) but the update normally cures this problem!

let me know if you need further help!
