Question about Verbatim VER95327 USB Hard Drive

Verbatim 320 gb usb external hard drive stopped working.When the device is connected the blue led light is on.But computer is not recognizing.Help me.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files.

While the Hard drive is connected to one of the USB ports on your computer.

On your keyboard press and hold the power button and press the letter R.

When the Run box comes up type in devmgmt.msc

Expand the Universal Serial Bus cotnrollers
right click on every root hub and choose uninstall
after that restart the computer

No driver is needed, it's just a basic USB external memory. If you get a message about a driver then the pc no longer recognizes it correctly, which means that it has failed.
Your only hope of maybe recovering some data out of it is to dismantle the unit, extract the actual hard disk from within and connect it directly in a desktop - access it from My Computer.

I bought a verbatim 320 model. The blue light flashes on and off but the usb never loads. I can hear the drive wanted to boot but it just flashes on and off. I'ts able to work in my computer if I keep...


It seems that the disk-drive is "dying".
If it works, at least a bit, copy all the files from it onto your C: drive, or burn the files to DVD-writable disk(s).
Then, exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

Usb device not recognized, usb device malfunction windows does not recognize it


Connect it to a different computer, to see if the USB port on your computer was the problem, or if the USB device itself is the problem.

The brand of your HD is Verbatim, so it should not show up as Toshiba in the Device Manager. Your computer is detecting another device.

Please do not rely on the Device Manager, you have to check the Disk Management instead. If the HD did not show up in the Disk Management, try connecting the HD into another USB ports of the problem computer. It could only be the USB ports of the problem computer is bad.

How many computers do you have? If you have 3 PCs and only one computer is having a problem, then you might need to update the USB driver of the problem computer.

First, try to connect it to a different computer, to see if it can be read on _any_ computer at all.

Second, check the warranty-status of the unit; if the warranty still is valid, Verbatim will replace the hardware (but will NOT make any attempts to 'recover' your files).

Third, an external drive has two major components -- the disk-drive and the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if that interface hardware is the problem.
