Question about Computers & Internet

When the monitor goes on stand-by it has difficulties turning on. It flickers and makes a clicking noise. I have to turn it off then turn it on for it to display. Is the backlight going bad? I have a Hanns-G HG281 that has been repaired once under warranty for the same problem, but then it would not turn on at all.

CRT on a flatscreen LCD monitor does not go bad. To my knowledge LCD flatscreens do NOT have a CRT, so it cant go bad.

The same old problem is coming again, last time it was not fully repaired. Get it repaired this time or try to exchange this one, if in warranty. A small flickering can result in the same old problem. Enjoy !!! Thanks for using fixya !!!

I fixed this same Viewsonic problem by replacing the electrolytic caps on the power board and re-soldering the power transformer joints. The noise is coming from the transformer, if you torque it the noise stops. Cold solder joints must have been the cause (large posts did not heat up enough during construction). The bad joints might have caused a cap to overheat too, not sure but one was swollen and leaking and after replacing them the squealing was stronger and allowed a longer running time to locate the cold joint.

Your monitor has high voltage leak from one of the bulbs end to the ground. This leak is in form of an arc starting from the solder on the bulb where the wire ends and ending on the metal frame of the LCD.
The current rises and electronic protection in the inverter turns it off.
You have to take apart the monitor, then the LCD to find the broken insulation and to resolder and insolate the joint between the high voltage wire and the light bulb.

Check the CV joint that the axle connects to. They make a clicking sound when turning a corner if badly worn. Both CV joints are commonly replaced when one of them goes out.

Computer making noise

Monitor clicks, pops, or makes other noises. Issue: Monitor clicks, pops, or makes other noises.
Cause: This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities:
  1. Monitor degaussing.
  2. Monitor changing resolution.
  3. Monitor syncing with the video card.
  4. Monitor warming up.
Solution: Noise when turned on or off It is normal for standard computer CRT monitors to make a click, pop, crackle, hum, buzz, or other type of noises when they are first turned on or turned off.
Noise when monitor goes into standby mode When the monitor enters a "standby mode" or "power savings mode" this is similar to the monitor being turned off. It is completely normal for the monitor to make a noise when the monitor enters this mode.
Noise when opening Microsoft Windows or other operating system or when opening a game When a computer opens its operating system, for example, a computer opening Microsoft Windows or when a user runs a computer game it is very common that the monitor will need to switch its resolution of the operating system or game. When switching resolutions it is normal for the computer monitor to make some type of noise and/or for the computer monitor to flick or flash.
Noise during normal operation If the computer monitor click, pops, or flashes while it is being used this is not normal operation. It is very likely that the monitor may be failing or a component within the monitor has already failed and could also potentially be a fire hazard. We highly recommend that the monitor be repaired, replaced, and/or looked at by a qualified technician.
