Hello

You are right...these issues in Top Load washers are usually caused due to either of these two things: Water inlet valve which is part#805 in the below diagram or the Pressure switch which is part#10 in the diagram. If any of these two goes bad then overfilling problem will start. This is the diagram: DOESN'T STOP FILLING ONCE IT - kevinwhite.png Kevin

The water level switch is working if the agitator starts. That must be a bad water valve.

I have not heard of a water level switch continuing to fill the washer after the motor starts. The water level switch has a tubing coming from base of tub. As the water rises the pressure builds in the tubing. A lot of times sediment blocks the tubing and simply blowing out the tubing to clear the sediment is all it takes in that case. The switch has 3 wires one hot wire and one wire pows the water valve and the other wire powers the motor. When the water lel is right power is killed to the water valve and applied to the motor. No way both could be powered at the same time. I was thinking your water valve has junk in it and does not shut off internally. Another thing to think about is them lateral straps WH1X2727. If they are worn and stretched they will sometimes allow water to slosh over the top with large loads and high water level.

11 year old Kenmore washer fills then stops.

in the machine under the front control panel will be a module that controls the wash agitation. Have it checked out as they fail . There is no connection between the timer and this unit as it comes in to play when the water reaches a set level. The timer just keeps working through the cycles believing the washer is agitating.

Doesn't fill

Possible that the water level sensor is faulty as it tends to indicate before the level has reached thereby starting the rinse cycle.
Usually this can be due to faulty level settings or fault in the pressure switch as it can be acting too fast. It will be best to clean the inlet valve and check the flow , test the water level sensor and see if this works by blowing into the diaphragm.

Water level control switch not working. even i set water level to very low it just keeps filling and has overflowed. i am guessing that the switch needs to be replaced.

Hello,

It depending on exactly what your seeing that will determine the problem.

Does your washer start agitating and keep filling?? if yes it does start agitating and the water continuies to fill try disconnectiing the power and if it keeps filling what would be wrong is that the water inlet valve is sticking open and it would need to replaced

If the washer continues to fill and does not start agaitating would be a defective water level switch as you suspect it may be.If ya disconnect the power and it STOPS filling replace the water level(pressure) switch.

Ken more wot stop filling but think i got it want to make sure

A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.

Fill cycle stops before full

It's underfilling The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

The water won't automatically stop flowing through

If it fills with water and starts the cycle and the water keeps running in then your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is sticking. It need replacing.

Washer will not stop filling with water, will not go into wash cycle.

This is caused by a faulty water level switch. This is a diaphragm like device with a small clear plastic tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level increases, the pressure increases on the air in the tube and when it reaches a certain level, it activates the switch to shut off the water and signals the timer to start the agitate cycle. Look for any obstruction in the tube and the switch can be tested for continuity using a multimeter. No continuity indicates a faulty switch. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.
