I have a xerox xc1040 copier. The paper jam light is stuck on (it is the red light in the center of the display). I have gone through the entire sequence of recommended steps in the Xerox PDF files for...

Sounds more like the drum life chip has expired. Either replace the drum unit or the chip .
I can't remember if the xc1040 has a chip, or if its the one with the gears on front that has to drop a flag in order to reset the drum count.
Either way, I believe replacing the drum unit is the solution to your problem.

You are going to need a new drum unit. This is the cartridge that is located right next to your toner cartridge. What is happening is the drum bleaning blade has gone bad and is not cleaning the drum properly. You can have these rebuilt but with parts and labor they usually end up costing more than just replacing the whole unit yourself. You can find them on the internet for around $125.00. Make sure if you order one that it is the whole unit not just the drum. For example a drum alone is around $40 - $50 VS the $125 for the cartridge.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I have a very old, but working, copier Xerox XC1040. It is blinking "H." What do I need to do?

To reset the H3 or H4 condition on your Xerox XC1040 copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)
Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again.
So in other words C, far left, C, far left
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Now key in 14 as if you were going to make 14 copies.
Now press the print button.
The machine should reset and the code should be gone.
9 times out of 10 this is a false code that pops up due to power surges or noise.
If the code comes back this means you have a heater lamp or thermal fuse (more common) failure in the fusing area and will need service.
If this solution works for you then please leave a positive feedback and testimonial for me.
Thanks,

Xerox XC1040 that keeps jamming

sounds like the fixing unit needs to be replaced, give a call to any copier dealer that services lexmark and see what it'll cost for a replacement fuser, with that info you'll be able to tell if you want to fix or trash it.

Where can I find a Drum for this unit, at a reasonable price! Is there any remanufactured drums for sale somewhere? And is this something that I can change out myself. I am mechanically inclined! If that...

Hi, You should be able to replace the drum yourself, unfortunately no one puts a used or re-manufactured drum in a copier. Before you start, I would suggest you get a service manual from here http://www.techmanualarchives.com/canon-clc1100_1120_1130_1140_1150-service-manual-25167.html

You would need to follow step by step instructions. The drum you can get from here http://www.precisionroller.com/

You might need to change the cleaning blade also

Part number for the drum is 1356A002AA be careful how you handle the drum it can easily be damaged with a cost of over $1200.00 who wants to go wrong?
Perhaps you could polish and buff the drum instead. If you need further help contact me at [email protected]

I need to replace the fuser gear on a XC1040

You have to remove that small cover on the bottom of the frame. It has 2 phillips screws to remove it. it is the cover about 3 inches high that runs around the lower front part of the machine.
Once you do that, you only have to remove one screw , unplug the heat rod and lift the fuser up and out. It really is pretty easy.

Replace Fuser Gear Xerox XC1040 Copier

Call a tech!. You first remove fuser assy from machine. One green screw to loosen and then you figure the trick out to get it out. Then once its out remove cover 2 screws I believe. Remove the lamp gently, you can do this with out unscrewing anything. Then remove the little clip on end of heat roller, simple spread clip and replace gear. It takes a tech about 10 min.
