It tells me that the operating system cant be found

I'm suspecting that the mbr might be messed up or an important file was deleted from your system32 directory. Have you tried booting with a windows disc to maybe try to repair the installation?

NTLDR missing on XP desktop

NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

I cannot get my dell dimension to boot from a cd

are you getting error messages or it just completely passes by it? Is the disc you're using a bootable disc?

If it is just passing it by, first, verify that your disc drive is functional. If it isnt functional, replace the drive with a different one.

If it is functional place the disc in the drive and reboot. while its booting, press the F2 key when you see the blue Dell Logo. Look for something in there called Boot Sequence...Verify that the CD Drive is 1st on the list. If it isn't use the proper keystrokes to get it there...Exit setup SAVING changes...the machine will reboot and you should be able to boot from the disc

Hi, I installed a OSX transformation pack designed for vista on my windows 7 and after I rebooted just after the Microsoft corp bit then it just boots to a mouse that i can move but nothing else then that...

use a livecd which is an operating system that you dont need to use it right from the disc and it boots the os from the disc.....then uninstall the graphics pack you installed. you can find a livecd on many linux sites

My dell mini is stuck on welcome screen

Once you reboot, press the F8 key and boot into safe mode.

Once in safe mode, allow it to finish booting and then reboot the computer as you would normally.

This should now allow you to boot correctly into your XP.

Good luck
