Hello

When the dryer wont heat up and dry clothes it means that the thermostat is bad and needs replacement. This part is located on the blower wheel housing inside the duct, please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Hi Granny, On some of the older Kenmore dryers there was a small opening on the front panel of the unit, usually on the right front lower corner, this was to be able to check for a flame once the dryer had run for a minute or so. You can usually hear them ignite, so you know if it did at least get a flame, but after a few minutes you should be able to see the flame, still, through the small opening. If not, then it's a good possibility that you need to change out the coils that operate the gas valve. They go bad more often than the thermostats. If you're not getting any flame at all, then you may have a broken igniter coil. The igniters are ceramic and are very brittle after having been in the flames for so long and the least little vibration can cause them to break.
If you start the machine and hear it start to cycle, you should be able to see an orangish glow through the small opening in the front. If there's no glow then either the igniter is broken or the Hi LImit Thermo which is usually located on the side of the flame shroud, is blown. You can check this for continuity with a volt/ohm checker. If you find you need further help, my email is (fixitcr63@yahoo.com) Corky (fixit)

Dryer runs but does not heat. It runs continually

If your dryer never quits on its own, then your main selection switch may be bad. Even if the clothes don't dry, the timer should still only run to the end of the cycle and then stop. The problem with the lack of heat could also be caused by a bad timer switch, but that is rare. Usually it is caused by a bad igniter/heat sensor unit. Sometimes you can use a piece of sandpaper and clean the carbon off of the sensor and then it will sense heat when the pilot flame starts, then it will let the gas valve send gas to the main burner. The heat sensor it the part that is in the flame of the pilot light.

Everything works but no heat to drying clothes. Gas is turned on and every so often the clothes are kinda warm, but minimum 2 dry cycles to get stuff dry

i would check my exhaust vent here, make sure you have good airflow
let it stand for a while, and start it up let run
are you getting any heat, put you hand tword the back
if you getting dry by very low heat, i would suspect you gas coils, two bullets on the top of the gas valve

what type is this electric or gas? have you removed the exsaust from the wall and ran a load like this? if you have heat and this is an electric dryer it sounds like you have a blockage in your house. if the dryer runs fine without the exsaust attached then that is your problem. let me know

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

with a gas dryer in which your assured te hventing is free and clear of any obstructions, i would look to replace the coil pack located atop the gas valve itself, probably about $25 part number 279834... 2 coils simply mount atop the valvle
