CD Burner on Gateway Laptop

When trying to burn a CD on my Gateway M-6750 laptop, I am given a message to connect a CD burner and restart. I have used the CD burner on this laptop before with great success, and am confused as to why it does not recognize that there is a CD burner installed. What should I do?

It won't play a disc either. When I put in a disc and try to play it I get a message to insert a disc and try again. This is soooo frustrating!

Sounds like the CD burner has gone out. First try doing a hardware search to see if it finds snd recognizes the CD burner. If not it will need to be replaced. Keep in mind that the drive may still read CD's fine without the ability to burn them.

Is the gateway nv53780 series have a cd burner

Look at your cd drawer. If it says DvDrw or CDrw then it will burn CD's. Sometimes it might say CD Rewritable.

If it doesn't you can always purchase one that can go inside the laptop or you can purchase one that can be external and connects through the usb ports.

I have a hp laptop that i dj with ..every time i open windows media player to burn a disc it says connect a burner and restart ....HELP!!!

The solution to your problem depends on a couple of things:

1. Which operating system are you using (for example, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista)?

2. Have you connected an external devise (such as an external CD/DVD burner) to the laptop in question previously? If so did it work successfully?

3. Does the laptop have a built in burner, and if so have you ever used it successfully?

Please repost with you original question plus answers to the above the questions and hopefully someone will be able to help you soluve the problem.

Good luck!

I think that your cd burner is messed up. Try contacting Toshiba support, and asking them to troubleshoot it with you. This is the link for Toshiba support: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
