Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

Hello i just bought a power acoustik cpt1-4000d amplifier and we and a friend of mine were hooking it up and he accidently blew the 4 30 amp fuses in the amp. so we replaced them with 4 40 amp fuses and now the amp doesnt work but the protection indicator on the amp is turned on. is it the 40 amp fuses we should change or is there something inside the amp that is possibly wrong?

You shouldn't have replaced 30 amp fuses with 40 amp fuses. The 30 amp fuses were in there for a reason. You'll probably find that if you put the correct sized fuses in then it will work. If it doesn't then you have burnt out or melted something and it will need repairing.

I coonected power wires backwards and it blew all 3 fuses and now just keeps blowing fuses

Afraid that I think you have damaged the amp.
They normally have an internal diode to stop this issue.
But you may have actually damaged the diode, so now it is perm shorted.

My "Power Acoustik OV2-420" has a problem. Some advice please!!!

It appears that the output transistors have failed. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Power Acoustik 1600 trouble

All fuses would be external. Check all of them.

If all of the fuses are OK, you probably blew the power supply for that channel (and possibly the output transistors). You'd need an ohm meter to check them.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Check the fuse. If its not blown rewire the ground to bare metal.  make sure the power wire is the right gauge aand connected right

Power acoustik ps2-1600 blowing fuses

Generally, this would indicate that the output transistors are shorted (which is generally a relatively simple repair). But an amplifier that never worked properly could indicate that it has a manufacturing defect. Sometimes, it's as simple as a bridged solder connection. Other times, it could be due to a missing component (which may be more difficult to repair).

The first thing you need to do is to check the output transistors. They will typically be the larger devices clamped to the heatsink. If you find any that are shorted (~0 ohms) between legs 2 and 3, you have at least one shorted transistor.

Before you do anything inside the amp, remove it from the power source and read the following page:

You need to order extra components in order to use the optional GPS function.. you can try checking circuit city or the Authorized Acoustik Suppliers for the products like the websites or you can check Ebay as someone might have the product
