If your existing system is IDE motherboard your new SATA drive will not work as it will have compatibility issue, also the MB will not support it.

The same goes for RAMs, 2 uncompatible RAMs will make the PC slow down or keep shutting down....

I guess you have used an adaptor to connect a SATA disk/cable to the IDE MB, check that, it may be the issue also.

in that case check if the SATA connection is for conencting a HardDisk, it may be for your drives (CD / DVD).
Check the MB specifications, it will detail the connections of what to conenct at which slots....

Hello,Please check the BIOS to see if the SATA ports are enabled. Older boards will disable the sata ports in the BIOS by default. To enter the BIOS, hit the DEl key as soon as you boot the PC.
If ports are enabled, then you probably have to format the drive.Heres how:1. Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
2. Under Storage, click Disk Management on the left pane.
STEP 3 - Format the device / drive / MP3 player
1. Right-click on the 1 TB drive you want to format then select Format.Windows will not recognize the drives file system and will mount it with a drive letter. ex; E:

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

Sir my problem is that my SATA hard disk not detected by system. Also when i detect the SATA/IDE hard disk system hang, and nothing happen. But that time keyboard not hang. My SATA ports work...

Each PATA device (disk-drive or CD/DVD) drive has some small jumpers.

For the two devices connected via the one ribbon-cable,
set the jumpers on one device to the MA(ster) setting,
and set the other device to the SL(ave) setting.

Or, set both devices on the one cable to the C(able)S(elect) setting.

When properly set, both devices will be quickly and properly detected.

Be sure that your BIOS SETUP has been configured to allow SATA devices,
i.e., not set to "disabled" mode.

I am not able to detect sata hard disk in msi mother board

Your model K8MM-V motherboard does not have a SATA controller only IDE disk controllers and therefore it cannot detect a SATA hard drive.
To install a SATA hard drive on this motherboard you need to purchase a PCI SATA disk controller and install it on the PCI expansion slot and then attach the SATA hard disk to this SATA controller.

Did not detect the additional sata hard disk?

Have you tried connecting the SATA hard-drive to a different computer, just to prove that it is not a "dud" ?

Is the SATA hard-drive getting power?
(It should warm-up a bit, and you make feel it vibrate as it spins.)

Have you tried a different SATA cable between the hard-drive and the SATA connector on the motherboard?

Check the BIOS settings, to be sure that detection of SATA drives is "enabled".

Looking at the vendors I buy parts from, all the cards I saw offer both SATA and IDE ports. Here's one as an example. You definitely want SATA capability as most newer drives are only being offered as SATA, so you'll have a wider selection to choose from.

Another possibility: start fresh with a new system board. If the onboard IDE controller isn't working properly, this may be a warning sign that other problems follow. You might be better off spending your money on a new mobo that already supports IDE and SATA.

Hope this helps you make up your mind. Thanks for using Fixya!

Primary IDE port does not work. My main hard disk drive and DVD writer drive are connected to the Secondary IDE port. If I move them to the the Primary IDE port, both the drives do not get detected at all....

Good day sir, there are several way to connect an extra IDE if the motherboard is full:
  1. Buy a PCI to IDE/SATA card. Check your local computer dealer if there is available.
  2. Buy an external USB to IDE Hard disk enclosure.
Of course, these are things to buy, but check first the CMOS setup if the Primary IDE is enabled on your PC.

Windows setup does not see sata drive K8VGA-m

Good day sir, if your hard drive is bad it cannot be detected, but lets review first several reasons why it cannot be detected by your motherboard;
  • check the master / slave setup, if youre hard drive is sata, this is not applicable.
  • check your connection, both data and power cable, to and from the hard drive. (ribbon ide cable or red sata data cable)
  • Still cannot be detected? try to reset your CMOS setup by using the cmos battery jumper. after reset, review the CMOS settings, and enable your IDE/SATA drives. test again.
  • Stiil doesn't work? bring it to a friend who has a PC and try to test your hard drive to any available good PC, to check if your drive is bad.
If your hard drive is good, chances are your motherboard IDE/SATA part is bad, you may need to buy a PCI to SATA/IDE card. connect this card to any available PCI slot, connect your hard drive. hope this helps.
