Carb float is faulty (probably has a float in it ... allowing it to 'sink') allowing gas to do exactly as you describe.

Have your carb rebuilt to rectify this problem.

Gas will not flow from tank to motor while running

Everybody had a crack at this problem, another thing would check is these engines sometimes have a primary fuel filter inside the tank itself. Drain the fuel and gently blow compressed air back through fuel line towards tank then rinse the tank out with fuel, refill and try run engine again

Gas leaks out side of pressure washer

Your washer was sitting for a while I suspect. Check the carb and make sure it is tight to the engine. If it is then you will need to take the carb off, careful not to tear any gaskets. Then remove the fuel bowl and clean out all ports. Make sure to clean out the jet as well as I suspect the fuel is clogged in the carb and overfilling. Your needle valve is stuck open and then flooding your carb and spilling out the side of your engine. Make sure your needle valve and float can move freely before reassembling. Good luck

Previous owner had way overfilled crankcase oil. Oil had gotten into carb and clogged air filter. Drained oil to correct level. Ran engine but kept cutting off-see above. Took off carb cover cleaned housing and ran without air filter-ran fine. Unsuccessfully tried to clean air filter with gas-did not work. Apparently, the engine could run just long enough to exhaust the air in the old filter and cut off which is why it would start back up after a few seconds. Bought new air filter-whole thing-about $15 at Carquest. Put in some carb cleaner and installed the new filter and it runs perfectly.

Troy bilt pressure washer air filter is flooding with gas

rebuild the carb and check the mounting seals between the carb, air filter and engine. It's probably just gummed up & it's not stopping the gas from free flowing into your airbox.

Why is gas leaking from the air filter

This is a carb flooding issue, there will be a rubber tipped needle in the carb, if this is not seating properly fuel will leak through the air filter, you need to go into the carb, check the metering lever height and replace the needle, unfortunatly it is not possible to replace the needle seat so if it continues to leak after fitting a new needle it will be a replacment carb.

Engine wont stay running

It is a diaphram carb. Doe's the primer **** straight gas or does it have air bubbles in it? If it has bubbles in it then it is a leak in the fuel line.
If not then Unhook the intake fuel line and pump the bulb until all of the gas is out of it. Then pour the gas out of the tank and rinse it out with new gas. Pour in new gas and it should be ok.

Gas powered pressure washer wont start

On pressure washers the more you pull the cord the more pressure builds up making it difficult to pull and start. I hold the trigger down as i pull this keeps the pressure down. If this is not the problem then take a look at the Spark plug, Air Filter if all is fine then check the fuel. How often do you use it, fuel loses its Octane when sitting around. Please give a 4 THUMBS UP if this free answer is helpful in anyways. Good Luck and have a Great Day.

Pressure washer stalls

Pressure washers work under very dirty conditions, no wonder they encounter engine problems. Here are a few pointers from a former pressure pump tech. The unloader is a source of engine overloading however this can easily be checked with a pressure guage attached to the gun with a tee fitting having the guage and the normal tip used for the unit. The pressure should never rise over rated pressure. The pressure should drop considrably when trigger is released. The life of the pump and engine can be increased by setting max pressure to 75% of rating. Most engine problems are from following conditions:
Leaking or misadjusted valves; clogged muffer /spark arrester; weak spark coil that is about to fail completely; kill switch/oil sensor wiring and or sensor mal function; gas cap not venting properly causing vacuum in tank and wet or dirty air filter.
All these problems easy to check, fastest repair is to disconnect oil sensor wire to check oil safety system. Then temp replace coil with known good coil. Loosen muffer bolts to check for clogged muffler. Temp run engine without gas cap to check for vacuum. Finally if everything fails, run the engine with carb cleaner spraying directly into the intake. If the engine continues to run with carb cleaner then the problem is fuel delivey and faulty carb. enjoy
