Hd output has stopped working...tried different HD cables and different TV's and just get a blank screen. (yes I do press and hold the power on button for 5sec until it beeps)

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

    Thanks, neither of these worked.

Firstly I tried the second solution so connect HD only to TV , change TV to HJD input channel and press and hold PS3 power button...nothinghappens , blank screen and PS£ turns onand then after about 10secs of holding it it turns itself off.

The second solution I went into the settngs in the ps3 (whilst connecting using the AV cables) changed it Hd, changed the TV input channel to HD pressed x and again nothing happened, blank screen. went back to the AV input channel and that was blank too.

Any other ideas or is it likely to be a problem with the graphics card/chip?

Welcome to Fixya!

This is a known issue for PS3.

Please follow the instructions below, it worked for many of my friends who had the same issue.

  • Connet the PS3 with the component cables via the multi link. Connect the hdmi to ps3 and the TV. Go to display on the ps3 and click hdmi when you do this hit source, av1, av2, video or whatever your tv uses and find hdmi on the tv screen. You only have 30 seconds until it reverts back to what it was before. You have to hit x to save the changes. This might be confusing but read it over until you figure it out.
If this the above does not work, try this:

  • Connect PS3 to TV select HDMI channel on TV press and hold power button on PS3 until screen resolution selection page appears.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to comeback if none of these work.

Thank you for using Fixya!

Make sure that the HDMI is FIRMLY connected to the TV and to the PS3. Nothing outrageous but HDMI cables need to be really pushed sometimes. Jiggle the cable slowly and see if pic will come out. If this is the case and if the PS3 is still under warranty, have it replaced.

Can you tell me what is the TV's brand and make? Is it on 480 or 720 settings (with PS3)?

I have a ps3 that i tried to hook up to our emmerson tv through an hdmi cable and the tv screen says format not supportedf why?

If you recently moved the PS3 from one tv to another, it's setup to work on that other tv.
Press and hold the power button on the PS3 until you hear a beep. This should default the video output to whatever is plugged in and the PS3 should output normally via the HDMI connection.

Mitsubishi VS-60805 Rear Projection won't operate in HD mode with Cable Box

Since this is an older first generation (1999) HD TV it may not be compatible with newer HDTV receivers because the standards back then were different - Make sure the HD cable box is plugged into the HD component inputs on the back of the TV (not the DVD inputs) and that the menu setting on the TV is set to DTV (not RGB) video. This TV will only accept 480i and 480p signals on the DVD input. Also the HDTV input will only accept 480i,480p and 1080i (it will not work with a 720p signal, make sure your cable box is not set to that mode)

Hooked up hd cable to ps3 and tv, now have no sound

Be sure to check the cables. You may need to replace them.

Try the cables with another component, if possible.

Also, try using AV cables to verify that it is not the TV and to simply troubleshoot:

To get back to default AV settings:

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until it shuts off again.

Once you have verified that AV is working, turn off console, take out AV cables.

Plug in HDMI cable and turn system back on. Switch TV input to HDMI and it will ask you if you would like to use the HDMI cables, select yes again and verify.

If you cannot get sound, again, check the cables..

If new cables do not work, then your HDMI output is going bad, not from use rather normal wear and tear of the motherboard.

To get the best non HD picture, you will need to get some 'component' cables, rather than the standard AV (red, white, yellow).

Good luck

DO YOU FIX PS3s... I have tryed everything i can think of incloding different cables HD & normal, different TVs HD & normal Also holding down the power button and waiting for the beeps. But nothing...

  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

SAFE MODE

Have a look at this, it may help.

TV only works on HD stations

Your TV has an SD/ED component input and an HD component input. You are using the HD input. It can only accept HD signals. You need to correct the settings in you cable box. You need to "fix" the video output so that it converts everything to HD. If you have a motorola box, you can usually turn the box off and press the menu button to access the cable box setup menu. Set the 4:3 override to Stretch or Full. If you need more help with this, post back with more information: cable provider, cable box used. I hope this was of some assistance.

My ps3 has no picture or sound...

if there's absolutely nothing on the TV screen, then most probably the video output is different then the cables you are using (eg: video output HD and you are using AV cables). Are you sure your TV is set correctly? like using HD cable you have to choose HDMI or AV cable choose AV. Anyway, When the PS3 is on, turn it off by pressing and holding the power button on the front (so the light turns red) you will hear beep sound ( I can't remember how many but not once). This should reset the Video output to AV. Swithch to AV cables (if you're using HD). Usually if the system is set to AV output and you switch to HDMI cables, the system recognizes that and swithches to HD output. But if it's set to HD output and you are using AV cables, it doesn't switch back; that is what my system does.

Connecting my Humax Series 2 Tivo to a Motorola HD DCH3416 Cable Box

Yes, the Tivo will just record in standard definition, instead of high def.

You can still hook the two up together, though.

What I would suggest (and have done in the past) is this:
Split the cable coming out of the cable box.
Hook one up to your HD cable box, and the other up to the Tivo.
Hook the output of your HD cable box to one HD input on your TV
Hook the output of your Tivo up to a different (non-HD) input on your TV.

This will allow you to watch HD while recording standard definition, and vise versa.

Running the HD through the Tivo will work, but will limit you to not be able to watch HD through it.

Samsung LTP326w

After few years of service with different TV providers I have problem with my TV. Last night my Samsung LTP326W just did the same think on HDMI connector and no mater what you do it will not turn HDMI video... it's connected to Verizon/Motorola DVR I called Verizon and they promptly replace DVR and HDMI cable but it didn't help at all, also sometimes when you power on/off I get message: The HD Content Protection of your display has been compromised Please use the YPBPR outputs for your HD connection...

When I switch to component cable it works just fine.
