Why my computer the monitor dont display windows i can see only blinking negative sign and it was block out did i press wrong command or it is my computer have a virus?

Hi,

Thank you for choosing Fixya. I think on what happened on your machine the Operating System Boot Menu is corrupted that's why you only have a black screen and blinking cursor on the upper left part of your display. I suggest try to isolate first the problem if its a Hardware or Software. First load to BIOS and check if the Hard Disk Drive(HDD) is detected, if happens that the HDD is detected try to reload the Operating System using the CD/DVD(OS) that comes with the machine.

My computer is displaying 'reboot and select boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

If your computer give that message, means that you don't have a operatig system available for loading.
Your Hard Disk might not be detected or the operating system installed before was erased somehow.
Make sure that you have in BIOS the Hard Disk Drive set as Primary boot device or check if the HDD is detected in the first place. If not, make the corect setting then save your BIOS settings and reboot.

Asus P5KPL SE & Sata, Bios "Not Detected Problem"..

The Asus bios won't show SATA devices.
However if you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or newer operating system then the devices should be detected. If this is not happening then enter the bios -- Storage Configuration -- Configuration Enhanced and set the IDE devices to compatible. This allows all drives to be "seen" and you should then be able to load an OS.

My computer wont boot properly

Try to check first if your hard drive is working. Just follow the steps.

  1. Load BIOS Utility by pressing any of the following keys upon booting or as soon as you have turn on your computer. (keys may varry depending on the brand or type of computer you are using but the following are the most common (del, f1,f2,f10) Just try any of the following.
  2. Under advanced option please check you hard drive settings. A numeric value should be displayed on the list or in some cases if you see AUTO in this option it means the BIOS automatically detects the hard drive. Just place your cursor on this option and press enter. The BIOS should react and will display the type of hard drive installed.
  3. If BIOS utility was unable to detect the hard drive and you still have a blue screen everytime you boot you will need to reinstall the operating system or run your recovery disk .
