Yes it can be fixed.

If you are handy or someone in the house is handy you may even be able to do this yourself.

All that is required is to remove the one screw out of the handle there near where the cord goes into the machine. Cut the cord off the unit about 2 inches from the handle.
Open up the handle and follow where the cord goes to, and disconnect the cord from the switch. Both the white and the black will go to the switch.
Feed the cut cord through the handle.
Bare off about 1 and 1/2 inches of the cord you just cut, bare off the black and white and replace onto the switch.
Reassemble everything and you should be ready to rock and roll again.

Good luck.

It started to spark at the cbale in the handle - seems to be a fixed unit, can it be fixed? hoover still works great, woeld be waste to have buy new one, thanks

You can remove the entire handle and cable by unlocking the handle at the bottom above the main dust bin. There should be a lock with an arrow on it, like a rectangle which you pull upwards - this will unlock the handle with the cable. Or there may be a twist lock dependent on the vacuum you have. Replacement handles with cords are available to buy online but if you are good at wire/electrical wire replacement, you can follow online videos on how to replace the original power cord.

Power keeps going on and off all the time

a common thing that happens on this model is that the power cord where it goes into the handle will become broken. Not visually at first, but will give enough of a headache to frustrate you when your vacuuming.

you can check this by keeping the unit upright and turning it on. Then wiggle the cord slowly up and down near the handle and see if it does in fact do the same thing.

good luck

The lead on our machine is becoming frayed - is it possible to replace the lead and if so, how is it achieved? John Tuffley

If you are refering to the Electrical Power Cord? Yes, this can be easily replaced or repaired.
Depending upon where the cord is damaged, you can either cut it a little shorter and install a replacement electrical plug end (available at any electrical parts store (Lowes, Home Depot, Radio Shack, etc) for about $2.50.
Or if the cord is damaged near the vacuum, you can purchase another cord or even make up one yourself how ever long you want it within reason.

Sebo Automatic X1 Stopped. Yesterday my Sebo stopped working. I know this can happen if it gets blocked and overheated so I checked for blockages, none. And left it too cool down. Tried it again but it was...

Hello,

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Even though the cord doesn't have any external damage, it's still very possible that it has gone bad. When a Sebo upright doesn't even start, this can mean one of several things. The parts that could go bad that would cause the machine not to turn on would be the cord (most common on a Sebo), the on/off switch, the PC board that's on top of the motor, or the actual motor. In the 7 years that I've been selling Sebo, I have only changed out one PC board, and I've never had to replace a single motor on a Sebo yet. I have had to replace several cords over the years, some showing external damage, others didn't show any damage.

The cord and the switch are going to be the easiest parts to test, and also happen to be the most common, so this is a great place to start.

Here's how you can test the switch and the cord on the vacuum cleaner. You'll need to have a simply Electrical tester that will test if current is going through the cord. Here's a link to a similar one that is very inexpensive that I used in this repair solution:
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xh7/R-100183054/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Step 1. Unwrap the electrical cord from the vacuum cleaner, and set the entire cord aside. Also remove the on-board wand that rests directly behind the bag housing. After the wand has been taken out, you should see on the left side of the vacuum where the handle goes into the body of the vacuum a little gray lever (my picture this lever is yellow as I only had a Sebo X5 on the floor, but the repair is identical). This is what the lever looks like:

80f63f9.jpg
Step 2. As you'll see if you look closely, the lever says "closed". Turn the lever towards the front of the vacuum so the lever reads "open".

8d9a86b.jpg
Step 3. Once the lever is moved to open, lift straight up on the entire handle assembly to remove it from the vacuum cleaner.

3c3c9cb.jpg
Step 4. Once you have the handle assembly out of the vacuum cleaner, turn the handle upside down. You'll be able to see two small metal electrical terminals that connect into the base of the vacuum where the handle meets the vacuum cleaner. Make sure that both terminals are visible. I have seen a few Sebo's where the handle has come loose, and these terminals no longer make connection to the rest of the vacuum, causing the vacuum not to turn on. You can re-attach the handle into the vacuum cleaner, turn the lever on the side from open back to closed, and test the vacuum to see if it comes on.

Step 5. If the vacuum failed to come on after reinstalling the handle, take the handle back out of the vacuum. Put one of the wires from your electrical tester into each terminal in the bottom of the handle assembly. Make sure that the tester is actually making contact with the metal terminals. It should look like this:

614747f.jpg
Step 6. With each of the electrical tester wires pushed down into the handle and making sure they are making contact, plug the cord into a standard wall outlet. If current is present, the electrical tester will light up. If not light comes on, try flipping the on/off switch and see if this has an effect on if the tester lights up or not:

1fdc3c7.jpg
As you can see in the picture above, the cord and switch on this vacuum are good. If your tester lights up when you put it into the handle, then this means that your cord and switch are good. This means that either your motor, or PC board have gone bad.

If the tester signals that you don't have any power at the bottom of the handle, then this means that either your switch or your cord is bad.

If you will please let me know the results of the electrical test here on the bottom of the handle, I will then go into the next steps of the repair, and explain how to open up the machine and either replace the cord / switch, or if you did have power here, the pc board or the motor.

Please just use the clarification request form that you used last time. I hope this was helpful in diagnosing your machine. If this helped you, please be kind and rate the repair as helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top of the repair.

I look forward to helping you fix your Sebo.

Carpet brush turning on and off during vacumming

If the problem is only with the brush, and the vacuum motor is working all the time, then the most likely cause is a poor connection between the upper and lower parts of the machine. As you will know, the two parts can be separated easily and (especially if you do that often) the two little flat pins that make the electrical contact can become damaged. So check the pins, and the sockets they fit in to. If they are not visibly damaged, good contact can sometimes be restored by VERY SLIGHTLY bending the pins.
If you are able to check for electrical continuity between the pins in the brush part, then do so. If your machine has done a lot of work it may be that the so-called "carbon brushes" in the motor are worn out and are no longer making good contact so will need to be changed.
I hope this is helpful. If you need more information just post a reply and I'll see what else I can do. Please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

My sebo keeps cutting out while I use it the turns back on when I move the lead about. Its over 5 half years old?

Sounds like the flex is damaged. This happens most often either right near the plug or where the flex enters the handle. There may be no damage visible externally, but still the copper wire inside can be broken. You say that moving the flex about makes a difference, so you will know where the problem is. If the damage is indeed at one end, then you can simply cut the flex and re-wire it. If you need to have someone do it for you, get a firm quote as it may be cheaper to fit a complete new handle (there's no labour cost involved because the handle just slides in). I hope this helps!

Replace power cable on Sebo X4 vacuum claenaer

From memory the plastic part slides up a little, enough for you to access the wiring. I'll try and have look at work tomorrow.

Warning though! you need to do this work with the handle laying flat, the screw hole upwards - it may be already too late as there is a nut that slides away and can be tricky to get back

Spare wire?

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

I took a picture of the Sebo X4 wiring in the handle of the machine for you. This is a brand new machine taken out of the box, this is how the wiring should look. You'll see that there are 5 total wires here. You'll see the positive and negative from the cord at the top, and the wires that come up from the bottom of the handle are below plug. There is a blue, white, and black wire coming up from the bottom of the handle.

The blue and white should be on spade connector below the white cord lead, and on the right hand side the single black wire from the handle should be attached beneath the black cord lead.

If the machine is still working, then it must have been the Blue or ground wire that you removed, correrct? I'm not sure if this will hurt the machine, but the wire is definitely there for a reason, and if you still have it you may want to reconnect it.

If you'd like to contact Sebo directly and speak with a product specialist there, their phone number is;
800-334-6614.
