How can I get my Compac Cq58 back to factory settings

the main board should have a jumper that is labeled CLR CMOS you need to switch the jumper the pins 1 & 2 over to pin's 3 & 4 make sure you understand that this is for the mainboard factory reset if you're looking to reset the computer's operating system and programs to factory settings that is a different procedure.for that I believe you need to hold down the f12 button well you're turning the device on hold the button down until you get a menu the menu will guide you through the procedure

Bios password reset

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

also
The most common way that we know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard.

Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip.

So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.

hope this helps

Router is locked Cannot install. Have key and pin. I did a bad some how. Was working fine (for several years) What do i need to do. Have tried everything i know to do. Please help. Thanks Jay Welch

Jay,

All routers have a "reset" button to restore the router to factory settings. Look for a tiny little round hole that a small paperclip would fir into (it sometimes says "reset" by it). Most routers require you to press and hold this button, with a paperclip, for 30 seconds, and WHILE holding it down, unplug the power and plug the power in, WHILE continuing to hold this button down for another 30 seconds. This will reset the router to factory settings. This will remove the lock.

I hope this helps.

How to reset password on Sony Ereader. Daughter set it and forgot it. Unable to use. Thanks in advance, Tim

This is the only way if you can't remember the password.
Here's the procedure for resetting the device back to factory default:
Note: Performing this procedure will delete any content you have stored on the Reader.

1). With the reader off, using a paper clip or similar device, press in and hold the Reset button on the back of the unit for 5 - 10 seconds.
2). Release the reset button and power on the reader.
3). While the reader is booting, press and hold both the Volume Up and Mark Buttons. Continue holding until you see a screen asking you to confirm that you want to reset the device back to factory default (Press Button 5). Note: I had to hold down these buttons for about 60 seconds to get the confirmation screen. Also about half way through this process, you should see a blue light flash momentarily around the lower left Page button.
4). After you have confirmed you want to set the device back to factory default, the reader will turn off. Turn the unit back on and it will go through its initial start up which takes a minute or two.
Hope this helps, Thanks for using FixYa

I need to reinstall windows cause its corruped i can't get into the bios to restart pc from cd cause i don't know the pas word please help

You will have to reset the BIOS to factory. To do this, you will have to open the case and expose the motherboard. The motherboard will have a set of pins that when touched together, it resets the bios and wipes the password. You will have to locate this set of jumpers and short them.
Look at a map of the board, and look for the reset jumpers here:
ftp://ftp.biostar-usa.com/manuals/GEFORCE%206100-M9/GeForce%206100-M9_BIOS.pdf
If you can not find the reset jumpers, you can just take out the battery on the motherboard. It is silver, round and the size of a quarter. A simple clip holds it in place. remove it and put it back in.
Then put it all back together, and reboot. press the del key or F1 key durring the begining of the boot cycle and you will be able to able to access the BIOS to change the boot sequence.
