Question about Video Cameras

Sony High 8 Tape Older tape from periods 1993-1996

I have two Sony Professional High 8 Cameras that I have been using since 1991. I have also two Professional High 8 players.
I am in process of archiving all my High 8 tape to dvd
Here is the problem. I noticed that all the tape manufactured between 1993 and 1996 will no longer play on the cameras or players. The tape prior to 1993 and after 1996 plays well.
Also, when I was editing from these tapes from 1993-1996 these tapes played well. After time they have become a problem.
The symptoms of these tapes results in the screen looking like the tape head need cleaning but cleaning the heads does nothing.
I have tried different players and same results. The tapes before 1993 and after 1996 are ok. I suspect something in the tape has gone bad after a period of time.
Is there a solution? Does anyone have a player that can play these bad tapes? I am sure there are others that have now experienced same problem with High 8 from that time.
Thanks

They were all Sony E6-120Hmex High Metal and all stored in same place

Incidentally I also used Fuji tape during this time and every one of them play ok from the period 1993-1996

After about 10 years the tapes lose their ability to keep anything on them, as they cant hold a magnetic field up against earths, try using a diffrent vcr or videocamera to play them back, does it always go fuzzy at the same place? or does it happen at a particular time?

If you get in touch with a videographer I am sure they would have decks to try it out. Most of them are very nice and would not charge much. There are also companies that will do it for around 25$ a tape i believe.
If you need more assistance please let me know,

Tape stuck inside Sony VX2000

If you are on about the VX2000 which is similar to the professional DSR-PD150 remove battery or supply then simply apply 3volts to the main mech drive motor and unthread the mech from the load position you will notice if it is in the load position because tape will be laced around the drum assembly hence the fact you can not remove the tape

My song DCR-TRV265E when i go to play it back it has 3 grey bars going through the picture ?? HELP PLEASE

Try a head cleaning tape that the manufacturer approves. Sounds like dirty heads. Digital-8 cameras are reasonably older models and it may require a professional service.

HAVE CCD-TRV22 , WHAT VIDEO TAPE NUMBER DO I

Though 8mm filming was and still is the best safest way to make movies Sony have stopped producing 8mm tapes, I use the brand new Digital 8 tapes on my brand new Sony camera, would never dream of going over to Hard drive/SD card/DVD recording cameras as the image will not last as long as it will on 8mm tape.
Also the 8mm cameras are much better made than anything since 2006.
If you type 8mm movie tapes in your search engine you will find 100's of firms still selling your tapes, they will help you choose the right one ok?

Sony DCR-TRV460 not playing back, blue screen

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if a blue screen is displayed when attempting to playback video from the camcorder.
  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  3. Play the tape.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  5. Clean the video heads of the camcorder using a dry head cleaning cassette.IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for use provided with the head cleaning cassette. It may be necessary to use the head cleaning cassette more than once per session.
  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  11. Play the tape.
NOTES:
  • If a blue screen is still displayed, then the camcorder may require service .
  • If the tape plays back correctly, then the first tape may be faulty or there is a problem with the video recording.

Tapes 4 years or older won't play - blue screen/no audio

Answer is No. 2. You probably had light clogged heads and by running couple of tapes, you have cleaned it somewhat. Now complete the cleaning using a new head cleaning tape. Run it for about 10 seconds but not more and you'll be ok. It is recomended to clean head by professional soon. Technician will be cleaning each head manually and you would be sleeping well for a lot longer. -James
