Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Dead Maytag washer

My Maytag washer (LAT8420AAW) has died. I discovered that the fuse inside the control panel had blown. I've replaced it 3 times and each time I get one load washed before it blows again. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Illeagle,

Thanks for the advice I got the part on Friday and my washer is back up and working. I had already ordered a couple parts and they are now on the shelf as future spare parts ... just in case! Ha ha ha. Thanks again from my girlfriend and myself.

You will need to replace the lid switch assembly, not just the fuse. Below is a link that will go directly to an enlarged image of what you need, along with ordering and shipping information.

Note: Lid switch adjustment may be required when installing new kit. If instructions do not come supplied with the kit, post me back and I will try to guide you through it.

Both washer and dryer (MDG5500A) dead except for drum lights.

I am afraid there is no breaker or fuse inside the machines that will cause the control panels to go dead. You can check your power to the boards at L1 and neutral. If you have the proper voltage here but controls are dead, you will have to replace the control boards.
I notice in your problem heading it stops at the word except. Except what?
Thanks/mike

Washing machine keeps triping the breaker. reset breaker but wont turn on at all now. how can i access the electrial wiring to see if anythings shorted out

Most of these Top-Load Maytag machines, allow access to the controls, by removing two screws on the top of the top control panel--
Remember to pull the plug from the wall before getting inside the control panel section.
When you remove the two outer screw, the panel itself will tilt forward, giving you access to the insides.

Most models have a control fuse inside, that may have blown-- Can you see it toward the back, and the middle. Does it look blown?-- can you replace it.

Note: I found on my machine, that the 2 switches that are connected to the lid get sluggish, and can result in blowing the control fuse, with the dropping of the lid!--
I found that I had to make sure the Control knob was always IN whenever we move the lid up or down.

Let me know if this helped-- or if we need to dig deeper.

My maytag washer stoped during the cycle with 8

You may have blown the internal fuse located in the lid switch. Could be you over loaded the washer and blew the fuse.
Unplug the washer and remove the four screws holding the control panel front in place. Two screws on top and two screws under control panel.
Remove the control panel and tilt forward.
Locate the lid switch assemble and remove glass fuse and inspect.
Door switch assembly should be replaced. When you order the proper fuse it should come with the door switch assembly.
Replace assembly. Reinstall the front control panel and four screws.
Plug machine in and test.

If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:

No power
Lid switch
No power Check to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.

Well I found the problem - fuse had blown.

There is a circuit diagram on the back of the washer that allowed me to locate the fuse. Take off the rear top plastic panel (behind the folding lid) by removing the two screws on the back. Inside close to the power cord you will find a fuse holder and an in-line ceramic fuse, 125V 12A. I checked mine for continuity and it had blown (as to why, I don't know yet - maybe the motor drew too much current with a large wash load?) - anyways, I replaced the fuse and everything works now!
