My 305 will charge but loses its charge one or two days later with no use. Is this normal? Do I need a new battery? I usually charge it, take it off charger when it tells me "charging complete," and one or two days later go to use it and it tells me "battery low." Very annoying.

I think I have the water-ingression problem on my Forerunner 305 too...I did a a triathlon a couple days ago, and the device just shut off during the run. It charges for about 4 seconds, and won't even turn on at all. How do I deal with this problem?

Forerunner 305 charges normally but within a few days the battery is low when I turn it on to use it. If I charge it the night before I use it, it's OK.

I turn my 305 off after each use but If I use it more than once without recharging, the battery will be too low.

I turn my 305 off after each use but if I use it a second time without recharging, the battery is too low.

Can you recommend the glue to use to re-assemble the forerunner 305 after replacing the battery?

Hi Samdot,

I have just been through a similar problem through ingress of water into the device (They are not in the slightest bit water proof)

My device would power on, but only in the cradle attached to the usb and it would say the battery was fully charged after 4 seconds.

Any way, the battery can be replaced using the following method.
Take a decent, thin penknife and gently lever the top off the Garmin (follow the crease above the buttons). There are no catches to be aware of it is just lightly glued.

Once the lid is off you will be able to remove the two circuit boards (they just sit in there) and you will see the battery in the bottom of the case.

Unscrew the two small screw above the battery connections and you will be able to replace the li-ion battery which is in place.

I can provide images if that would be useful.

My garmin forerunner 305 turns off automaticly after a couple of minutes, and the battery is fully charge.

Try SW reset. Hold Mode and lap/reset for 10 seconds, then release and long press start until device restarts.
Should clean up default.

If not try hard reset, but you'll loose all data in device.
hold mode and start for ten second, device needs to off before.
Then keeping these, pulse press lap/reset.
You'll get a confirmation screen

Yes you can. Go to the Garmin Website and simply email them asking for the price of the battery and instructions on how to replace your specific model and serial number as they changed in mid year many times.

Garmin Forerunner 305 won't turn on and won't charge. Is there a fix or is this it for the device?

Look at

You can soft reset or hard reset the device. Hard reset deletes all data.

Ive not had my garmin 305 long, it will not charge or turn on.

This might just need a reset. To reset the Forerunner or Edge 205/305:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Press and hold the mode and reset (lap) buttons together for 10 seconds
  3. Release and wait for 3 seconds
  4. There should be some indication of battery charging (either Finished or In Process)
  5. Power the device on while keeping it connected to the computer
In addition, please make sure that the device has the latest software version available by downloading and running the WebUpdater program. To update the software, please use the following link:

Forerunner 305 keeps beeping, turning on and off every 5 seconds

I think I had the same problem. You do not write if your device were connected to the PC. My device was, and I finally got the suspicision, that it died because the battery was so low, that it crashed when the PC polled it as an usb unit.
So, I connected the unit directly to the charger unit that came with the unit, and now it works. So, try to connect directly to your charger, when your battery is totally drained.

Replacing battery on Forerunner 305

Well it is an accumulator instead of a battery so just recharge it.
If the accumulatoris gone I think you have to use the garmin support

Forerunner 305 battery replacement

Automotive silicon/gasket maker.

Use a tooth pick to put a VERY small amount of silicon around the entire seam. Put the two half's together and wrap tightly with electrical tape. Test the unit immediately to see if it powers on and off. If it does not open it back up and raise the small prongs that make the connection from the bottom half to the top half.
If any silicon squishes out the sides wipe with water and a rag.
Let the unit sit over night. In the morning remove the tape.
