Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a 2003 mustang gt convertable and changing out the head unit with a Sony 540 Xploid unit. I have the metra 70-5519 harness. on the back of the head unit it has an out put for the rear subs and a out put for the front with the RCA's hook up. Do I need to have both plug in so I get all the speakers to work. Since the harness only has one set of RCA's on it. Do I need to get a Y set of RCA's to plug into all ports.

You shouldn't have to buy y connectors. The sub output on the back of the sony head unit is for bass output that goes to an amplifier & then to a sub. The RCA's on the harness will be just for Stereo sound ( left & right ).

Sorry i should have clarified a bit better, it was a bit hard to understand your question ,If the sony head unit has multiple sets of stereo RCA outputs you only need to plug in the two RCA's on the harness into two of them, one left and one right to get sound to all your speakers.
They should be plugged into the plugs labelled as Front if you have a choice.
If you are running a sub

Got a 2003 GT convertible, intermittent wipers

The turn signal switch and wiper switch are one unit called a Combo switch. The good news is it is easily changed. After opening the column covers it is held to the side of the column with two torque head screws. You don't have to remove the steering wheel.

Problems with Metra METRA PR01-0001 PIONEER 16-PIN UNIVERSAL WIRING HARNESS?which wires are which

I don't know what pins are what on the METRA harness, but the wires coming from the back of the Pioneer unit should be:

black ground
red accessory (KEY)
yellow memory constant power,
blue is remote,
orange is for the dimmer,
green with black is left rear neg.and green is positive,
violet black is right rear negative and violet is positive,
white is left front positive and white with black is negative,
gray black is right front negative and gray is positive.

If you don't have the pioneer harness (and so these wire colors dont' mean much to you) just message back here, and I'll map those wire colors to pin positions on the back of the unit.

2000 mustang convertable amp problems

Are you sure the amplifiers are trashed? Have you checked the fuses? A reputable car audio shop could help for a fee of course, but it may be worth the price. It's odd that (all) the amps would malfuntion simultaniously unless someone unqualified messed with the wiring or the radio has a defective trigger wire (turns the amps on). You'll be sadly disapointed with any new radio without the factory amps, especially with the convertable ... I strongly suggest getting the amps (the factory system) working again.
