I think its a hardware problem of your display. You need to check it to the Computer Store or the place where you bought your Laptop

I need a new netowork adapter in Gateway GT5674

All over the place. What you need is a PCI Ethernet Card,

Gateway Support > GT5674 Desktop PC > Main Support page,

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/s/PC/R/1015322R/1015322Rnv.shtml

In the list click on Components.
Scroll down to the bold black subheading - Motherboards
Click on the blue -
4006254R - ECS MCP61PM - GM AM2 mATX Motherboard

Main top view of your motherboard, and as you will see it in your computer.
View the long White PCI expansion slot. Indicated by the letter R.
Also view the two shorter white expansion slots, indicated by the letter Q.

These two are PCI -Express x1 expansion slots.

IF, the PCI slot is occupied, you can use a PCI-Express x1 slot, if available.

The long white PCI slot uses a PCI Ethernet Card.
One example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=763637&CatId=1175

If it is PCI-Express x1 slot you have available, use an example like this, a PCI-Express x1 Ethernet Card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2543350&CatId=2380

The long Black connector, above the shorter white PCI-Express x1 slots, is a PCI-Express x16 connector.

It is ONLY used for a graphics card.

Suddenly a very thin vertical yellow/white line appearing on my HP desktop monitor? pls help

Does it appear THE MOMENT you turn the unit on?

If it does, then you will have to run the monitor's self-test function by turning it on with the data cable (the one that does NOT connect to the power outlet) DISCONNECTED from the computer.

If the line still appears, then the monitor is faulty & cannot be "repaired". Usually, the entire LCD module is replaced.

If the line does not appear in the self-test mode, then check if it's connected to an ON-BOARD display adapter (typically found in the back of the machine, towards the middle area, towards where the ethernet cable and USB devices plug in) or a EXPANSION CARD (normally located towards the BOTTOM part in the back of the machine).

rictutero_6.jpg

If it plugs in to the on-board slot, then the motherboard may be faulty. If it plugs in to an expansion card, then it's the card that may need to be replaced.

Of course, these are merely possibilities, but the most likely failing component here is the monitor itself. Busted display adapters very rarely, if at all, manifest these horizontal or vertical lines and STILL boot up. Regardless if it's on-board or expansion card, a failing display adapter would normally have either no display at all, or it would just simply stop booting up (screen remains dark: no lines).

tricky!! oh hi im Dyanne.. a totally unresponsive black screen can be th result of failure of th LCD or LCD inverter.( a specialized piece of electronics that energize th screen) to rule out th failure of th video display adapter or circuitry, try plugging in an external monitor..a standard pc monitor.. attached direct to th lappy. if it works, (as i susopect) th motherboard and video display are both working ok and its th LCD which is at fault. this can sometimes be repaired by a competent specialist. good luck xx

Hi I am fairly good with computers but i dont know how to fix this problem. My advent 7113 laptop turns on the power light comes on and they the fan starts but am not sure if the harddisk boots. Then...

It sounds like Either the onboard video card or the LCD controller has gone bad. To verify which one connect a monitor to the VGA adapter on the back of the Laptop. You may also have to hit a key combination to swap displays (Usually <Fn> + <F5> but may be different the keys usually have an offset that indicates its function.

If the Monitor displays the same black and white anomaly then the vid card went bad, if it displays a normal screen your LCD controller is faulty.

Either problem would likely need service from an experienced technician

Hope this helps

Blank screen or vertical colored lines on monitor

sounds like a graphics card failing

is it on board graphics ?

if so try a graphics card in there see if that helps it

also if you could borrow a monitor and see if that helps
