Question about Garden

Open Question

Hi, I have a Foton FT254 tractor (near new auction sale) After connecting a slasher I found the PTO would not disengage using the clutch. I could start it with the gear engaged and slash the grass then disengage by pulling on the PTO lever but not with the clutch. The linkage from the clutch pedal to the PTO clutch lever-arm can be removed and the lever-arm can be rotated completely around with little resistance. I don't know what should be attached to the shaft on the inside but suspect it is some type of PTO clutch lever. It looks like I could pull the top plate (with PTO clutch-lever shaft) off the gear box (six bolts) and look inside. Is there any danger of damaging or miss-aligning something if I do remove the top plate? The manual provides no data on alignment of the PTO clutch, perhaps it is too obvious.

I would like to hear the end-solution as my foton 254's PTO also do not want to disengage thus I have to disconnect the PTo shaft from the mower of baler to stop working.

Another photo of broken connector pin that caused enough slack in linkage to prevent operation of clutch.

The brake is on the right side of the transaxle. There are two mounting bolts and one 1/2 nut in the middle that is your adjustment. Tighten it 1/2 turn at a time and hold the brake down and try to roll it until it holds.

SOURCE: cable for pto is loose and when done mowing will

It's probably not the cable, but the idler arm on the deck that the pulley that tightens up the belt is not moving back and forth freely, probably from rust. Spray penatrating oil on the pivot point while working it back and forth until it frees up. If still having problems, let me know. Dwain

Our 4710 tractor engine dies when slasher turned on.Why does this happen?

I take it to mean that when you engage the PTO drive the extra load to the idleing engine stalls
disconect the slasher and try engaging the PTO drive without load to discount an internal PTO gearbox fault if it doesn't stall check the idle speed fuel delivery system and airfilter any thing that can impact the power output of the engine

Hi, I have a yanmar 236d with 2 speed pto. I am wanting to run a slasher. Can you tell me what the 2 pto speeds are please. Thanks. Ric

talk with a dealer as to the machine operations
read the user manual
I suspect that one speed will be related to vehicle movement ( as for slasher or other attachment used while travelling and the other for stationary operation - post hole digging, pump drive etc where higher rpms are required

How do you disengage the clutch after being left on when turning the engine off?

You can kill the engine with the PTO clutch on and then turn the PTO off before trying to restart because the PTO will auto disengage when the engine switch is turned off. The engine should not start if the PTO switch is on.

John deere 2010 tractor. pto grinds and wont engage

The PTO usually has a clutch that has to be engaged so that you can select the PTO rotation setting. I had a problem like that on my tractor and all it needed was a little adjustment on the PTO clutch lever, so it could disengage the PTO gearbox properly.
