Hello
Your TV is locked I thinks. To unlock it and to enter an other code do the following.
Press number "9" and "QV" buttons on the remote simoultaneously, whenever your code is requested. This process temperoarly unlock your TV and will ask you to enter a new code. After entering a new code, you can proceed with all the functions.

It sounds like the tv has been programed to only pick up ch 4, in the set up menu you can re-run the channel search and it should allow you then to go to any active channel. Before you run the channel search turn on all of your equipment so the tv can find everything you run

You've managed to turn on "SAP" (second audio mode) which will cause the trouble. It doesn't affect all channels, as you're finding out, and can be frustrating. Mitsubishi remotes have a singe button for SAP, if I remember correctly, and you can press it and change modes without knowing it. (The button may be marked AUDIO or SAP.) Just press the button until the on-screen display tells you SAP is off. This will bring the sound back to normal.

This ranks up there with the mysterious black box that appears on some channels. This is because of closed-captioning being set to TEXT, and it happens the same way: pressing a button on the remote.

I was given a mitsubishi tv but the previous owner had a password lock on it. Is there any way to access the tv by rebooting or something in order to use the tv?

1. Press the Mode button until the LOCK CODE display appears.
2. Enter the 4-digit code using the CHANNEL SELECTOR buttons.
3. Press the CANCEL button to cancel the previously locked channel. The LOCK CODE number display flashes.
4. To exit the CHANNEL LOCK mode, press the MODE button until only the Time and Channel display appear.

Secret text if the code is forgotten!
1. Press the Mode button until the LOCK CODE display appears.
2. Press Channel Number "9" and "QV" simultaneously. Knowledge of this procedure defeats the channel lock system.

REMOTE LOCKED

On most television remotes, there are buttons to control other units. If these buttons are hit by accident, then the remote acts like you described. Look at the top of the remote and find the button that says TV. Push it and it should start working normal. Since I'm not at my shop, I don't know the exact button or names. If this doesn't work, respond to this post and I will reply when I have a schematic in front of me.
