Try opening the scanner part as if you were changing the ink cartridges. To the left of center, about 1/3 of the way toward the back is a switch activated by a small plastic piece hanging from the bottom of the scanner. Push down on the switch (it was very easy to activate it on mine), then try doing a copy. That made a successful copy for me, then I closed it up and it seems to be working (after I changed the low ink cartridges it was even readable). Hope this helps.

Try the following if the switch activation fails to fix it:

• Use the Nvram access trick:
Press Menu, then Scan, Copy, Scan toenter Service Mode
Press the + button until you arrive atNVRAM ACCESS, press OK
Use the + or - buttons to reach ABS-MLEVEL, press OK
Set the level on zero and press OK
Use +/- to reach ABS-P, press OK
Set this level to zero and press OK
Press STOP to exit the menu
Switch off and restart the printer.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Thanks, Joe

Last week i tried to print but it didn't work and appeared 5100 error. i have the pixma mp 170 printer... i don't know how i can fix it

Hello

The manual states that the error code 5100 is a result of:

Service error 5100 is displayed

Cause: Movement of the FINE Cartridge Holder is blocked.
Action: Clear the paper jam or foreign object that is preventing the FINE Cartridge Holder from moving, cancel printing from your computer, then turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON again.
---
You might see something blocking the printer head, check inside to see if there is a paper jam, staple, or some other object blocking the print head.

If this does not work, try resetting the device:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold the button Resume / Cancel (red triangle in the circle), click POWER - indicator lights green.
  3. Release the button Resume / Cancel, keeping POWER.
  4. Click Resume / Cancel 2 times, keeping POWER, and then release all the buttons.
  5. When the indicator light Green - click Resume / Cancel 4 times!
  6. Turn the printer off button POWER.
Hope this can help you.

Best regards
Andrea

My Pixma ip1980 service error 5100

5100 is a Carriage Home Position Error.
try cleaning the plastic strip that runs the length of the carriage, it may be contaminated.
Use alcohol and a swab.
