Question about IBM IntelliStation M Pro 6219 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Following installation of my 'Crucial CT12864AA800' 1GB DDR2 240 PIN 128Mx64 PC2 RAM, my Intellistation Pro M Series [not sure what #] will not load the OS. Is it not compatible? I checked www.crucial.com, but couldn't find the 12864A'A'800... I have four ports to install it, one of which is already being used. The other three are staggered, two of them are blue, two of them are black. My card fits into all of them, yet I cannot get it to boot following installation. What can I do to get this 1 GB of RAM to work, or should I simply return it? I am relatively tech savvy, but I am completely lost as to why this is not working. Please help?

This is the download page for HMM, (Hardware Maintenance Manual), for the IBM IntelliStation M Pro 6219,

http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-45692

Under the heading > File link, click on > 71p9918.pdf, in blue

[ After you click you won't see anything happening. The PDF file is downloading in the background.
I have Adobe Reader 9.3.4. version, and a medium speed DSL connection. Took 122 seconds before the first page popped up, and the file was fully downloaded also. Longest time it has taken for a PDF file download, in 5 years of downloading. Just wanted to give you a 'Heads Up' ]

In the Bookmarks menu to the left, click on the + sign next to > General Information
Now click on the sub-heading > Features and Specifications

MEMORY
Minimum: 256MB
Maximum: 4GB
Type: PC2100
Connectors: four dual inline memory module (DIMM) connectors

Plain English;

The Minimum Amount of ram memory that can be used is 256MB.
The Maximum Amount of ram memory that can be used is 4GB. (4096MB)

The TYPE is PC2100. That is DDR Sdram at 266MegaHertz. (266MHz)

Crucial CT12864AA800 is DDR2 Sdram at 800MHz!
PC2-6400

Now WHAT is going on here?

DDR Sdram has 184 gold plated contact pins on the bottom. 92 on EACH side. There is one Locating Notch on the bottom.

DDR2 Sdram has 240 gold plated contact pins on the bottom. 120 on EACH side. There is one Locating Notch on the bottom.

Supporting data is 1) the Hardware Maintenance Manual I just gave you a link to.

This is information about the Crucial CT12864AA800 ram memory module,

http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT12864AA800

The contact pins on the bottom of a ram memory module are for Voltage, Signal, Ground, and a host of other attributes.

The orientation of the contact pins in regard to the above mentioned attributes, are in a different place, when comparing DDR Sdram to DDR2 Sdram.
Hence the added number of contact pins in a DDR2 Sdram ram memory module.

More than likely the ram memory module is fried. Can't say about the motherboard, in regard to the ram memory slot, or the Northbridge chip.

[Northbridge and Southbridge chip are the motherboard chipset. The Northbridge chip for the IBM IntelliStation M Pro 6219 is an Intel E7205, the Southbridge chip is an Intel 82801DB,

http://www.intel.com/products/workstation/chipsets/e7205/e7205-overview.htm

Similar to the Intel 875P, (82875P),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_Chipsets ]

Who recommended this ram memory module? Crucial?

I have a eMachines T3646 Motherboard MCP61SM2MA-RS2H and I wanted to upgrade the Ram on it. I was told that this type of ram was compatible ( Crucial 1GB 240-Pin 128x64 DDR2 PC2-6400 CL6 ) I stuck two of...

Not sure exactly as to why you can run the one, and not the other, but I am familiar with 'speed compatibility' issues, especially with Crucial RAM (which is still good memory, BTW)... I looked up your computer's memory specs on this site, and they're in the biz of selling, but pretty reliable as they are independent. Check out where it shows the speed at PC2-5300--any time you want to upgrade, you try and match the upper limits of that particular characteristic, so maybe it'll run one Crucial stick at '6400', but not two, since--even though most RAM packages 'say' they're 'backwardly compatible, speed-wise', many of the better brands sell RAM that, when installed in pairs, run at their upper speeds, or 'a certain speed', we'll say... So--again, this is easy--try a pair running at the slower speed. The best news is, if you bought the Crucial RAM new (as I suspect you did), most retailers will return your money on hardware purchases within 30 days afterward.

It sounds like you have laptop memory which is much shorter than standard ram. I would take it back and return it. You should have 240 pin ram for a desktop and 200 pin ram in laptop type devices.

I have attempted to upgrade a Gateway GT52223 from 1= Gig existing 2X 512 DIMMS to 2 Gig on two separate occasions first using Using Crucial -2-1GB 240-PIN 128Mx64 DDR2 PC2-6400 UNBUFF CL6 the system...

Your last results is running your comp OK because it is really only running on the 512 stick. When putting 2 different sizes together it will only run on the smallest, with this said here is a website http://www.4allmemory.com it will test your comp to exactly what type RAM you need . I buy for my clients all the time from this website. Very reliable,Try it..and remember about the 2 sizes

I went to Newegg to view the ram for my Acer Aspire One 10.1''. Which brand of module would be best for this model netbook? Thanks. fldtpww@netscape.net

There are three versions of the Acer Aspire One.
Look on the bottom of your Acer, and see which model number it is.

ALL of the Acer Aspire One netbooks, have One ram slot.

For the Maximum TOTAL Amount of ram that each model number will use,

The A110 model number uses a 1GB stick, of PC2-5300 SO-DIMM ram module.

The D150 model number uses a 2GB stick of PC2-5300 SO-DIMM ram module.

The D250 model number uses a 2GB stick of PC2-5300 SO-DIMM ram module.

Not to offend, to help.
If you are not familiar, with what a SO-DIMM style of ram module is, and/or you are not familiar with what PC2-5300 is, I suggest you buy your ram from Crucial.com

all memory will operate at the slowest speed chip unfortunately. the only way to get the higher speed is to have all chips capeable of that particular speed.
