The model is A105-S4384. AFter inserting a DVD, the DVD drive runs for about 30 seconds and quits and nothing appears on the screen. The only drive listed under My Computer is the C drive.

You need to delete the LowerFilters from the registry. To do this,

Go to your computer's registry settings by clicking Start >> Run . On the field, type regedit then click ok. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SYSTEM >> CURRENT CONTROL SET >> CONTROL >> CLASS

Look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Click on it to show the contents on the right. Click to highlight UpperFilters and LowerFilters (right click on them and choose Delete).

Next restart your computer and try again. Please let me know how this goes.

To clariffy with you is the drive not reading disks or is it not showing in My Computer. If it is not showing up the links below will help you verify the drive is showing in Disk Management.

How to change your drive letter in Windows Vista and Windows 7

How to change your drive letter in Windows XP

If it is not showing and/or not reading disks you might try to reseat the drive. Most of your modern notebooks the drive is removable. If you do not know how to remove it let me know the full model number to your computer. I know you have an A105 but it you look on the model sticker on the bottom of the computer you will see and number after the dash. Example A105-****

Dvd-rom sd-616E driver no longer recognized by

Reboot the computer and go into the BIOS, see if its recognized in there, if its not recognized then you'll need to turn the computer off and unseat and reseat the cable and the power connector to the dvd drive. Then turn on the computer again and go into the BIOS, if the dvd drive is still not recognzied then you'll need to replace the drive.

If the dvd drive is recognized in the BIOS and not in windows then you'll need to go into the system restore in windows and choose a date the last time the computer was working, it will restore your computer back to this date and reboot. At that point it should recognize your dvd drive. If it doesn't then your OS is corrupt and you'll need to wipe out the drive and restore your computer back to factory defaults.

The DVD/CD drive on my Medion 8830 PC no longer burns

Have you changed or upgraded your OS recently?
Looks like the drivers are corrupt or out-dated.
Might go to your computer mfg support site or the Drive mfg support site and download the latest drivers.
Uninstall whatever drivers are loaded reboot and reinstall fresh copies.

Hi there,
I recommend that you upgrade to a newer technology. The flash drives and other usb CD/DVD drives are newer and "plug and play" without much hassles. ....besides they carry more in terms of storage. Slightly more expensive, but less trouble.

Kind Regards

LG recordable no longer recognized by pc

Go to Start/Control Panel/System/ Hardware /Device Manager/DVD/CD Rom Drives
double click on the Icon and click on the driver tab
click then on the update driver.

This will refresh the system.
But of course it may the the device itself that has failed
Only a replacement will cure that.
