Hello.

For some reason, your computer is overheating.

Sounds like a hardware problem, probably memory, power supply or your hard drive.

Try memory, first. Disconnect all cables. Touch metal to dispel static electricity. Remove the side cover by loosening the thumbscrew and pushing down on the cover and sliding out. Remove all memory modules. Insert one at a time and boot your computer to see if one module is bad. Your memory may just need to be reseated (removed and reinserted).

If still a problem, the next most common problem is the power supply. Replace it.

If still a problem, your hard drive may need to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Oh ... I thought you were unable to install Windows XP, since it reboots. So, you did successfully install, but the computer reboots when you try to boot normally ? But it starts OK in Safe Mode (F8) ? Please clarify. Thanks.

Well, you mean it's formatted and failed to reinstall XP? If so, it's clear that there's hardware issue. First change/replace the Ram. Try installing the Windows again and see if this helps or not. It's also possible that the Hard Disk Drive is bad, maybe physically or virtually (file system). Try with another Hard Disk Drive and check the status.

There are several possibilities for this, but in most cases, it's related to Ram and Hdd. The motherboard itself could also be the culprit, but for now, it's not blame it before you we confirm Ram and Hdd.

Please update.

When I start up my Dell Dimension 8250 (Windows

Sounds like the machine got stuck in the middle of a installation of windows. Best thing to do is to reinstall windows and let the cd format the hard drive, if it can't format the hard drive then the hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

Want to wipe hard drive on dell dimension 8250

You don't need a recovery cd (or any other cd) to wipe the hard drive. Boot to a command prompt and type "format c:"

Reinstalling your operating system is the only time you need a recovery cd. If you have no way to reinstall your operating system, don't wipe the hard drive.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.

Can't reboot windows cd on with cd drives

If you have it available, boot to the Dell DImension Resource CD and run the diagnostics on the hard drive. From the description of you problem, you may have a failing hard drive.

Other things to check:

1. Ensure the system BIOS (F2 at boot) sees the hard drive and has the correct date and time. If the motherboard battery is failing, the time and date will not be retained when system is powered off.

2. If you are able to format the hard drive, but the windows XP installation process gives you file copy errors, then you may have a bad RAM module. If the system has 2 or more modules, take out all but 1, retry the install. If you get file copy errors again, try a different module.

3. If the Hard drive passes dieagnostics, but fails to complete a format, replace the hard drive.
