Question about Samsung 1200W 5.1-Ch. XM-Ready Home Theater System w/5-Disc Upconvert DVD Player
I got this surround sound system for Father's Day. It works fine when a DVD is playing. However, it is not working for regular TV programs. I understand that a program will not play in total surround sound if it is not recorded in it. However, it should still play through the speakers correct? For example, I am a big boxing fan and usually get most of the PPV events. With a lot of people at my house, it would be nice to have the ability to turn it up louder and hear it through at least the front speakers.
The system is currently hooked up via the Audio and Sound input cables. I have tried connecting them from the Samsung receiver to the TV and that will only play DVD's in surround sound. I was instructed by Best Buy that if I wandted a regular TV program to play on the speakers to connect the cable box to the TV via the same cables. That did not work.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?
I can understand your problem, I have some what of the same issues with my home theater setup when watching events. One of the only suggestions I can make is adjusting the "Dolby Pro Logic II Mode". After reviewing your owners manual it appears you should be able to change the mode by pressing the PL II Mode button found in the lower keypad on your remote. It appears the options you should have are Music - Cinema - Pro Logic - Matrix - Stereo. You may want to try Music or Stereo when watching your events. In Stereo setting it should provide sound out of the front speakers and sub-woofer only. In Music, there are more processing that is done so you could hear more then just the front speakers.
I hope this makes your next your next PPV Party a big hit!

In the display window, do you see the letters ASC? If so,press the ASC button on the remote to turn it off. You should now have the TV sound thru the rear speakers. Enjoy...
