Question about Vivitar ViviCam 3915 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I bought this camera today. It seems to only produce a blurry picture. What is wrong? Is this a Vivitar camera issue? How do I fix this? I really do not want to have to go out and pay for another camera. I am very disappointed so far with this camera. HELP...

With autofocus digital cameras, blurred photos are almost always a result of camera shake. You need to hold the camera still even after pressing the button, as there is often a short delay before the shutter fires.

Many digital cameras have a two-stage shutter press- first pressure causes the camera to focus, then the follow through pressure takes the picture. If you are rushing this, you may get unfocussed shots.

Finally, make sure that you have not left the camera in Macro mode. This is a special extreme close-up mode offered by some cameras, and it does not allow autofocus on objects at normal distances. The icon for Macro mode is a little flower.

thanks for the help. Is there a way to keep it out of "autofocus" , or a mode that would reduce the affects of shaking/trembling hands? what set up?

You won't want to turn off autofocus, it isn't the problem. I was saying that the fact that the camera IS an autofocus one should eliminate poor focussing as being the reason for blurred shots.

Some cameras have image stabilisation. If yours has it, then I would have expected it to be turned on by default. It will only help a little.

If you have a lot of trouble holding a camera steady, then you really need to use some kind of support. A tripod is best, but is clumsy to carry around. You can just press the camera against a handy support when taking a shot, like a table top, wall or lamp post. In the film camera days, some photographers would carry a little bean bag to rest their camera on.

Is your camera in the macro mode?
There's a slide switch on the end of the camera, near the USB slot. Slide it from the flower to the mountain, then take a picture of something at least three meters (ten feet) away. Is it still blurry?

Please go to Setup menu and select Initialize option to reset camera to default settings that might solve blurry picture problem, if that does not help then its technician job to adjust focus of camera.
Thanks.

Got no picture all blurry

No picture or one that is all blurry? If blurry,
Clean the lens and make sure it is not loose or damaged. The camera cannot produce blurry pictures at distances greater than around 0.3m ish as it has a fixed focus lens. If it really is blurred either you are too close to the lens, the lens to sensor distance is wrong (mechanical damage) or the lens is dirty.
I hope that helps

LCD screen is extremely blurred

It is probably not the LCD itself, but an element that is protecting the LCD is bent out of shape.

I'M SORRY I CAN'T GIVE YOU AN EXACT ANSWER, BUT I DID A LOT OF CHECKING AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAMERA? I HAVE READ MANY REVIEWS THAT HAVE SAID THE SAME THING, THAT THE LCD AND THE PICTURES ARE BLURRY OR THEY HAVE " NOISE" WHEN DOWNLOADED TO A COMPUTER. ALSO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LCD IN THE BRIGHT LIGHT, POOR FLASH PICTURES AND ON AND ON. IF THIS CAMERA IS FAIRLY NEW, I WOULD RECOMMEND RETURNING IT TO WHERE YOU BOUGHT IT. THIS CAERA JUST DOESN'T HAVE A VERY GOOD RAP AS FAR AS PICTURE QUALITY. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT FLASH SPOTS ON INDOOR PICS. IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM LIKE YOU ARE DOING ANYTHING WRONG, IT'S JUST THE CAMERA. SORRY, BUT IF YOU CN RETURN IT THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO YOU. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP REPLY TO ARCLIGHT1217. IF THIS WAS HELPFUL, PLEASE RATE, THANKS!

Blurry Image

I had that problem too. So I pushed the MENU button and got to looking to see what all was there. I moved down to where it says SCENE and clicked on it. I moved it down to portrait. On my camera that fixed my problem of no flash and it seemed to take forever to take the picture. You could try that. But I did notice though, that when I turn my camera off and then back on I have to re-do it.
