If it is under warranty, you might not want to try to fix it yourself. However, the warranty probably doesn't cover damage from dropping the camera. If you have household insurance, this might provide cover for accidental damage.

There is a page of things you can try (only if you can't get it repaired economically) at this link.

You may have to send it in for repairs. But before you do, try the suggestions in this tip.

Dropped my 100-300 zoom lens, now it does not seem to focus anymore at close range; seems to focus ok above 200. Any ideas?

Hi Enrico, Dropping a precision lens is not healthy for a precision lens. Unfortunately, there really nothing the end user can do to attempt to fix it - without running the risk of doing more harm than good to it.

Your best bet is to send it to the manufacturer (or authorized repair shop) to get an estimate for repair. Weigh this price with the cost of replacing the lens with a new or used lens. You could sell the lens on eBay or craigslist as a damaged lens to help recover the cost of the replacement lens.

Good luck!

The lens clicks twice and vibrates after each photo is taken. It doesn't happen when the VR is turned off. I didn't do this when new.

First, try carefully cleaning the lens and camera body contacts.

If that doesn't work then sorry, that's a fault which cannot be fixed on a DIY basis.

Either live without VR or send the lens to Nikon for repair. If it's under warranty then the repair will be free as long as it's not found to have been damaged by misues (such as being dropped).

Lens error

Not really anything that can be done without taking it apart and fixing. Problem is then getting it back together!

I always suggest to friends that they buy a camera without the extending lens for just this reason.

You can try sending to Nikon or taking it to a repair shop. Most likely will be $100 or so to get it fixed. Or, they will tell you it's not worth fixing.

I dropped my camera while it was on and the lens was extended. And I dropped it right on the lens. And now when I turn the camra off, the lens does not go back inside the camera. Everything else is fine,...

if the cams making grinding or crunching noise the lens housing gears are broke. repair usually not very economical. about 80% the cost of cam when you bought it.

I have a nikon coolpix 8700 that my son dropped. The lens will not focus, or slide out on its own. How can I fix this myself without sending it in. thanks

I don't think that will be possible. The lens is really a touchy place for a camera.

PLEASE DON'T TRY TO FIX THIS BY OPENING IT.
-the camera was made in a DUST-FREE environment, any dust in your camera will compromise its performance. unless you have a dust free room, the blueprints for the camera, and all the part necessary to fix it please don't.
plus it destroys your warranty.

I would recommend sending it in. the lens is on a motor if it is striped you may not have the part to fix it.

The only way to fix a lens error is to send into casio and have it fixed. Call them at 800-706-2534 option 2 and tell them you have a lens error. They will tell u how to go about sending it in for repair.
