Question about Delfield Undercounter Freezer - 407

1 Answer

We have a Delfield 407 freezer that will freeze when initially plugged in, fan running, gets nicely down to zero. After the unit gets down to temperature, the fan does not kick in again and the unit temperature rises until everything thaws. Unplugging and replugging the unti starts the fan again.

You will need to replace the temperature assembly on the unit. If you can post the model number, I will be able to direct you to the parts you need. The model number will be something like "18648-BUC".

Model number 407. Is the part number 2194817KT? That's what I was thinking, and what I told the place the church paid to fix it. All they did was recharge the freon. Again, it ran for a few days and failed again. I hate to haul it back to them, and if it is a part I (I repair/rebuild sewing machines} could replace I was hoping I could give it a try.

Refrigerators and freezers are almost identical except for more controls on a freezer. Just raise the thermostat to the temperature you need. If it won't adjust that high, you will need to replace it.

Causes freezer compressor freeze up

with such limited information, I can only answer generic. Most of the time it is because the evaporator fan(s) are not running or the evaporator is frozen over. With further info such as model, serial, or more details on behaviors, I could probably helps some further.

There is definately a ground fault in this unit. Also according to the service manual this is an "Electronic Defrost Control" similar to an "
Adaptive Defrost Control" which determins the defrost initiation by the amount of run time. You cannot set this yourself.

Delfield mini freezer for restaurant is not freezing. Unit has power and cabinet fan runs but comp tries to kick on then you here a click and it immidietly shuts off before it can really ever start. Hi...

Compressor is locked up. You have an outside chance of getting it to come back if you install a hard start capacitor. When a locked compressor tries to start it gets hot really fast and kicks the power off to prevent wires from overheating. You can get a hard start kit from wwgrainger or refrigeration supply company. Many times they won't sell direct to the end user. The hard start kit gives it an extra boost when it tries to start. Most times this won't work. Usually the compressor has to be replaced because it is burned out internally. The hard start kit is less than $20.00, so its worth a shot.

Delfield MD # 6151 - S Sr # 206156-T not pulling down to Temp set at -10 and only pulling down to 24 freon is good

Take the top cover off that is next to the compressor,. That cover is about 30 by 30 inches. You will see two fans and an evaporator coil. Several things can happen. First these fans won't come on until the coil is somewhere around 10 degrees or if the door is open. So, once the freezer has been running look under the big cover and be sure both fans are running. If one or both are not running it won't pull down to 0. Also look at the coils and see how much frost has accumulated. If your defrost timer is not working it may be frozen over. When that happens air is blocked from reaching the inside of the freezer. While you are at it, fell of the coils if they are only partially freezing, you may be low on freon. If you have gauges to check the freon charge, check both the high side and the low side pressures. If the high side is less than 200 psi, you have some freon, but maybe not enough. If the high side pressure is 300 psi, you have something blocking the freon from returning to the compressor. Usually a blocked cap tube or a malfuncting expansion valve. Finally check the condenser coils which is the radiator thing out where the compressor is located. If it clogged with dust and grease, it will not dissapate the heat from the freon and will intefere with the operation of the entire unit. Clogged condener coils are probably the number one cause of burned out compressors. Good luck.

Sounds like a refrigerant restriction in the system. Recover the refrigerant, replace the filter drier and pull a deep vacuum on the system before recgarging.

some older models ran power throughthe door/ light switches, for the evaporator fan, or perhaps even ewired through the defrost thermostat( reason for that is if evap is warm no need to run a fan and circulate hot air through the cabinet did you try letting run for a while mighttake 20-30 min to get cold enough to trip the defrost thermo.I usuallly hit it with a shot of the freon just ot freeze it shut real quick
