All the top of the caps are perfectly flat? Bad cap can have high ESR with no sign of bulging or leaking. You need to check the DC reading on the caps to see if you have the 5vdc and 16~18vdc.

If you can post the pictures, that will help. Worst case will be the lamp assemblies problems.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). Viewsonic Optiquest Q19wb lcd Monitor goes blank after 2 secs. A couple of posts say replace the 1000uf 16v Cap My problem is i can't find them on the pcb (where are they?)

Look at the board where the AC power connector comes in that is the power supply board, there are more than one versions so it nay not have the same caps value.

It's a Viewsonic VX715 Monitor. When it's turned ON, It goes black in 3 seconds.

It can be one of thses: bad caps (bulging top or bottom seal) in the power supply, bad backlight inverter circuits, bad lamps. You need to open it up and lool for bad caps first, then measure the voltages across the filter caps, you should have 5vdc and 12~18vdc (there are two power supplies: 5vdc for logic, 12~18vdc for backlights citcuits) Post back what you find so we can guide you further, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
