This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

What's the MEMORY STICK 64 MG for

hi,
it is not 64 MG, its 64MB, it has a very low memory capacity, this memory card is used for still snaps, you can find the snap button on the cam, this cam will not support much bigger GB memory sticks.

Sony handy cam dcr sr42 error code E:61:10 please explain

According to Sony this means "Take the camera in for service."

What it usually actually means is that the lens is stuck. Your question doesn't include that information, though.

If the lens is stuck (and you're out of warranty), the best known solution is to smack the camera while it is off. It's a bit scary, but there are many testimonials to it working. I recommend reading a bit at that link.

Hi,, i bought sony sr42 three years back... until last week it was working fine.. suddenly i am not able to switch on the cam neither i am able to charge it.. what could be the problem...how can i resolve...

Check the power adapter that you connect to the wall outlet, with a volt meter at the tip that attaches to the camera, to see if it's producing DC voltage. Verify the value of the voltage by reading the label attached to the adapter - it's usually valued around the voltage of the battery or higher. If you find that the adapter is good, then you have a more complex problem inside the camera - check to see if an indicator lights up when you plug the adapter to the camera. If it doesn't, then the power circuit is bad - not allowing a battery charge. Suggest having it repaired at a shop. Get an estimate first - sometimes the cost of repair will exceed the value of a newer camera. You've had it for three years - looks like you got your moneys worth!

Buying a camcorder

First, I suggest you consult a web buying guide, such as:
http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-handycam-dcr-sr42/4505-6500_7-32306183.html
The camera you mention has a built in hard drive for media storage.  The main drawbacks are image quality as the picture is highly compressed and you must export your media to your computer.  This feature is either really handy or an inconvenience - it all depends on your preference.

Camcoder not starting up

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
