Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My computer crashed after I installed an antivirus product I purchased from Office Depot. I'm not certain that caused the problem however. I can't locate my start-up disk, so I was wondering if this is a good time to upgrade to windows7? (or is it even possible?) Right now I have a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Have you ever installed an operating system before? Do you know how to put the computer into safe mode? What operating system were you running before your computer crashed?

You need to get your pc into safe mode to recover your system. If you can't find your recovery disks, your going to need to buy an operating system. Provided your pc has the minimal requirements to run win 7 I would say that now would be the perfect time to upgrade. However, I cannot tell you if your computer will accept the install and has enough memory ect., to run the system correctly until you can get it up and running again.

Hello

You might not be so wrong as you think about the virus software actually being the cause. The thing is, viruses actually are written these days to creep into your registry files, hence, if the software starts scanning and find an infected file, it will delete it. Now, if your registry have broken links, it can cause this exact problem.

Now, about you upgrading the operating system. No matter how you look at the situation, you will need to have an install disc, or a backup disc. You will also need to keep in mind that you will loose all the data you have on the HDD once you format the drive to install a clean version of the current OS, or an upgraded version.

About Windows 7:

I personally believe this is the best operating system produced by Microsoft since XP. It is as user-friendly as it gets, and, all the bugs reported in Vista is fixed and improved in Windows 7.

Now, to recap it all, as i stated, no matter what you try doing from here on, you will need either an backup disc or and install disc.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Kind regards
Andrea

Windows 7 Keygen won't execute and causes a APPCRASH

Delete any new programs that you have downloaded.

Often, the cause of corruption in a computer system is a bad download that installs harmful files.

If you started to get the Appcrash error on your system after downloading a new program or software from the Internet, it's highly likely you have downloaded a bad product.

Use the "Add/Remove Programs" feature in the Control Panel to get rid of the program immediately.

Uninstall the program that is crashing.

It is possible to fix the program's corrupted files while the program is still installed, but to make sure that you clear the program files completely, it is safest to completely uninstall it from the system.

Run a full scan of your computer.

Your computer should already have antivirus software installed that can scan for corrupted files and either fix them or delete them from your system.

If you do not have antivirus software on your computer, that could be a big part of the problem.

Purchase and install antivirus software as soon as possible.

Once you have the antivirus program installed, open it and click "Scan Computer."

The antivirus scan will isolate bad files and you will be given the option to remove them from your system.

Reinstall the program that was crashing.

Now that the corrupted files have all been removed, your program should run smoothly after reinstallation.

Check for program incompatibility.

If, after a thorough scan and cleaning of your computer and reinstallation of your program, the

Appcrash errors continue, the program you are trying to use may not be compatible with your operating system or other programs on your computer

This problem doesn't stem from your antivirus. It sounds to me that you were using the 30 day trial version of office that came with your computer. You have 2 options to fix this problem.
1)Buy a copy of MS Office 2) use Open office Available Here.

APPCRASH error please help

When program files or files within your computer's registry have become corrupted, this can cause the programs to unexpectedly crash. When a program crashes, you will likely get an Appcrash error. The error message will say "Windows Media Player (or whichever program has crashed) has stopped working" and then list rows of technical information regarding the cause of the crash. Unless you are a computer programmer, you may never fully understand what caused your program crash, but that doesn't mean that you can't fix it.

  2. Check for program incompatibility. If, after a thorough scan and cleaning of your computer and reinstallation of your program, the Appcrash errors continue, the program you are trying to use may not be compatible with your program. For instance, there are some DVD softwares, such as Media Now, that do not work correctly with Windows Vista. These lists can be easily found online. If this is the case, you will have to purchase a software program that is compatible with your OS
You should download a program such as RegCure and run it from time to time. If you are unable to download a copy let me know and I will give you a link on my web where you can download it.
