You will need a print server to do this. Many stand-alone USB print servers do not support the bi-directional communication needed for the scanner of an all-in-one. (Check the specs if you are using one of these.)

A better option would be to connect the printer via USB to one computer and then share it across the network. A Windows 7 Home Group for example would be a simple way to set the feature. You may need to set the firewall to Trust the other machines in the network.

Set up the printer on the first computer as you normally would. Get the software from http://www1.lexmark.com/products/view/All-in-Ones/Lexmark-X3550/catId=cat10004-category&prodId=3924-product;jsessionid=51301F9D038596164B244112F2F14143.node4 if needed; click on Download Drivers. Then install the software on the first computer and then connect the USB cable. Set the printer to be shared (Start > Devices and Printers and right click on the printer. Find Printer Properties and the Sharing Tab.)

Make sure that the Home Group is set up and all the computers have joined the Home Group if using that feature. For other Windows computers on the network, get the software and then add the printer as a network printer from the Devices and Printers Add a Printer Wizard. If the printer doesn't show up, check the firewall and sharing.

I hope this helps.

(I have never connected an all-in-one over a Home Group. I do not know if the scanner works in that case.)

Have lexmark x3550 printer. but can't get wi fi light to come on. can i fix this?

Reset the Network Adapter of the printer by pressing the Settings button on the Operator Panel on the printer> Network Setup> Wireless Setup> Reset Network Adapter to Defaults> Yes. Reinstall/reconfigure the printer for wireless connection. Make sure you are using the correct wireless network information and that the computer belongs to that network. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Cant connect lexmark X3550 to laptop wirelessly..

If you are trying to connect to a network printer you need to install a network printer NOT a PC install. You would have to browse for the "Remote" printer, from the CLIENT. The printer that is on the "Master" PC will have to have the printer already installed and "shared" as well, FIRST. Then you go to the remote and install a NETWORKED printer....find it on the network, and connect, it will actually get the drivers from the "Master" PC, see. Plus BOTH PC's will have to have a name password & and be on the same "Workgroup" as well. If you want to enable documents to be exchanged to print between PC's you will have to enable "Sharing" on each, Drive, or Folders as well, if you wish.

Cannot print from laptop to printer using wireless print server

This is probably the Software Firewall on your laptop

you should probably tell your firewall software that you have an internal network (Laptop-desktop-printer) you should add the IP range of the wireless network as a trusted network.
