I had a tape already recorded and the sound worked just fine. The camera was in storage (clean & dry) for a couple years. When I tried it again, the already recorded tape played fine (w/sound) but it would not record any new sound. Tried a new tape, nothing. I believe that it's a recording problem.

I'm not so sure. I tried an external mic and it didn't work either. Any other ideas?

I think it was a "if the logical answer is not true, then whatever is left must be the answer" answer.

    Thanks anyway,

Do you mean to say you have no audio while playing the recorded clips or is it not recording audio on new clips?

Yes the in-built microphone is damaged. So I guess its time to ship it to canon for a service.

Cold solder joints on the microphone circuit would be the ideal explanation.

When we record, it has strange lines & colors in it, also have had one time that it did not even record

If the tape has been used many times to record try a new tape.
Maybe the tape has been exposed to a magnetic source like a speaker that is not shielded.

I have a canon ZR60 camcorder with a "black

Yes, these units in particular have a common problem with the CCD sensors. It is not exactly an inexpensive repair, and if you had to pay for it yourself, would probably exceed the value of the camera. Contact Canon support as they may replace the CCD for free or under a special warranty, since the problem was so pervasive. If Canon won't replace it for you, you probably need to look into a new camcorder.

I have a Canon ZR60 Mini DV Digital Camcorder It seems to work pretty good except when you rewind the tape. it mangles the tape near the end of the rewind every time. Makes watching anything on...

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Horizontal Streaks accross my lcd during record and playback

Are you trying to shoot from a TV or computer monitor? If so, check the frame rate--30frames per sec (fps) or 15fps. If it is on 30fps, changing to 15fps should solve the problem.

Cann't eject cassette from Canon ZR60

I had a similar problem last few days with my ZR60.
The problem I had was that the tape won't eject and on repeated attempts to eject it would eject as if it had a mind of its own.
I was messing with it a little bit and realized that the door was not opening fully. Being a delicate item I didn't realize that I was not fully opening the door may be because there was a little friction in the pivot pins or what ever.
Try to gently swing the door open fully and see if it helps.
Since I discovered this problem I tried 10-12 times, and every time it would eject the tape and load it.
I was almost going to give up this camcorder last night thank GOD, I am able to use it.
Good Luck to you.

Won't Eject Tape

same problem, after you hit eject is pops out and never opens up, to the right of the "push" button is an arm with a spring, pushing it back will open that side, on the left side is a pin with an arm you can move the arm back the pin moves and the other side will open as well, wont fix the problem but will get you your tape back.  I have a very upset wife, we had a jvc mini DV went out one winter change in temp killed it instantly, now our canon has sat a few years and wont work either,  we bought a flip video, it works.

Canon ZR60 Mini DV Digital, remove the cassete message

This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine.

Cannon ZR 60 camcoder Cassette copartment does not open

Loading unit problem is a common mechanical problem in camcorders. To remedy the problem, trained tech need to disassemble the mechanical system around the loading and replace few broken gears (plastics) and adjust it. Repair cost may run close to half of the new camcorder. If you really got to repair this camera for some sentimental reason or for special needs otherwise better to invest the repair charge into a new camcorder.
