Question about Juki TL-98Q

2 Answers

The stitches are fine; the machine is clean and oiled. However, when it is threaded and stitching, there is a rather loud thumping sound. I think it is the presser foot and feed dog operation; not sure. When there is no thread or fabric, just running it, there is no thumping noise. This occurs with both straight stitching and free motion quilting. Any suggestions are appreciated. (The machine was in for routine service just three months ago. No problems noted at the time.)

Well, I gave that a try, but the sound remains. Any other ideas?

I am sure that you have tried adjusting the presser foot pressure. But if not, you might try adjusting the pressure.

It seems that the presser foot is not properly adjusted. It should be a little higher than where it is not. Just one tenth of a milli meter. Just loosen it and tighten it with an upward push. Then feel the difference. if need be a little more.

Embroidery not working correctly

Well, before I did all that (which may be necessary), I would take a piece of UNWAXED dental floss or hand embroidery floss and floss between the tension disks. You mentioned that you were suddenly breaking threads; there may be lint or loose threads or both seated between the disks, preventing the thread from seating properly. Then,
I would take the embroidery unit off and try to do some sewing with it, to see what results I got. If you can catch and bring the bobbin thread to the top with the top thread, I am doubtful that your timing is off. Sew a line of both straight stitch and zigzag stitches, and see if the stitches are balanced. If not, you may have a bobbin tension issue, and if so, most bobbin cases can be adjusted.

I think you'll find, though, that things will improve considerably when you have cleaned out the upper thread path and tension disks. Make sure when you do that, that your foot is raised, so that the disks are spread. Oh, a drop of sewing machine oil wouldn't hurt either--generally you should put a drop of oil for every 5 hours of embroidery.

Please get back to us to let us know!

CE-5000 thumping sound when I sew, messy stitching

any sound out of the ordinary could mean that a part is worn or fixing to break or something is loose
it's very possible that the machine needs to be serviced

Why won't my Bernina Activa 140 sew the blind hem stitch?

Are you absolutley sure you're not getting a problem with stitch formation on, for example, wide zig-zag. Check again, using a different colour top and bottom and make sure that the stitch is being formed properly with only the top colour on top and bottom colour on the bottom. It sounds as though the bottom loop is not being picked-up by the hook properly. Make sure you've thoroughly cleaned-out any fluff under the stitch-plate and remove the hook/shuttle and give the hook race a good clean and give it a single drop of oil, even if you've got the lightweight part-plastic hook/shuttle fitted.

My Activa 130 makes a clacking sound when I sew. It is 10 years old. What do you think is wrong? Can I repair this or do I need to take it to be serviced?

I would take it to a Bernina repairman, nice machine and well worth getting it serviced by a qualified technician.

I presume that you've tried the obvious things like a new needle and checking the bobbin case is in correctly.

Feed dog lever not working on my Kenmore 385 24 stitch machine

I surfed around this site for various suggestions, finally took the bottom plate off and cleaned and oiled all the parts along that rod that goes right across (think it's a drive bar that rotates). Ran the machine without thread in for a few minutes to let the oil soak in. Machine now works fine.

SIX Layers !!!!
You really need a size 16 needle that won't bend and miss the hook by the sound of it....can you sew on less challenging thicknesses OK ??
If not, the timing may need adjusting...here is a link to assist:
