HP 2600 Printer Problems

I just installed a new black ink cartridge, but its still saying "replace cartridge". What should I do?

I have the exact same problem. I have installed a new factory cartridge and it showed I needed to replace it, even though it was new. I installed another new cartridge and it again showed I needed to replace. I have cleaned the connection area so the printer could read it as being full. ANY OTHER IDEAS? I love this printer and it is only about one year old.

If this is a reman cartridge or new. Take it back and get a different one. Their is a little chip on the cartridge that may have glue on it, been installed upside down or if it is a reman someone may have forgotten to replace the chip.
You might also want to check where this chip makes contact with the printer to make sure you do not have any tonner dust or have something obstructing the contact between the cartridge and the printer.

Can I print on my hp 6122 deskjet with only a black ink cartridge? I have no color ink.

Yes, all HP Deskjet printer models feature a 'single cartridge print mode'. Just remove the cartridge you don't wish to print with; the printer will automatically revert into either greyscale printing (if color cartridge remains installed) or black only printing (if the black cartridge remains installed). However, if the installed ink cartridge is electrically damaged/defective the printer will display an alert message; it will need to be replaced with a new cartridge.

Says Black ink supply expired. Installed new

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

I have an HP Deskjet 6540 which I have owned and had no problems with for 2 years. Yesterday I replaced the ink with new hp ink cartridges number 96 and 97. However, the printer is not working and the icon...

When the carriage is worn out it doesn't hold the ink up to the contacts inside. If you remove the ink and place a small piece of paper behind the connector inside it will move the contacts out to the cart. Also try a piece of tape on top center of cart to hold cartridge in to the contacts better.

Replaced black ink cartridge and printer keeps asking to replace

The message that persists in saying to "replace black cartridge" could be due to a defective cartridge chip. The chip maintains counts and tells the printer when a new cartridge is installed. If you cartridge is remanufactured, they may have neglected to install a new chip.

Regarding the new fuser not working, I'll have to get back to you on that.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

Ref: our live chat - Definitely worth replacing the colour one with a new one - some other people had identical problem and that cured it - they really don't survive not being used very well. :)
