You might want to check your battery, sounds like it is weak put it on a charge overnight and see what happens. Preferably a battery maintenance charger, they give the best condition for charging batteries

Picture a lawnmower. Pull the starter cable with the lawnmower on its side. Envision the movement being the same on the kick start. Removal of the cylinder housing requires removal of the starter arm. Many scenarios the arm connects to a gear with a bolt. Recommend bike shop. So as not to damage gear.

sounds like the key switch is turned and a click is produced... most mowers that electric start have a relay that enables the starter. you sit on the seat firmly and turn the key. if the battery is connected and charged, power from the keyswitch is sent to the starter relay. it clicks and battery voltage now becomes present on both of its cables instead of just one. could this be where you are losing it? when current flows thru both cables, one of them runs the starter motor. does the starter motor's gear throw out to engage the teeth on the flywheel? could this be the click? (more like a shtoonk) you see? we must have more information

It won't start. Jumped the battery. change selenoid and only have a click

Is the engine installed on a mower? If not, do you have a good ground connection? If so, try using a jumper cable to go from the positive on the battery to the terminal on the engine starter. If starter good and no other mechanical problems (i.e. broken connection rod), it should turn.

2002 ford ranger quit running on highway, pulled over tried to start but wouldn't crank over, starter just clicked like a dead battery. thought alternator died then drained battery. today jumped battery,...

If the starter is just clicking, then it is not,but if the starter is kicking the starter drive out,and that is the noise you are hearing then it might be,turn the crank pulley with a socket and ratchet ,clock wise,if it turns then this is not the problem, make sure the ground to the engine is good,if the ground cable has gone bad, this will happen.

My lawnmower won't start. WHen I turn the key it

Check battery cable for correct hook up. Red positive to starter and black to ground. If battery connected backward starter rotates in opposite direction and can burn up starter. If correct battery hook up check plastice gear on starter for wear.

Electric starter will not engage engine on a craftsman LT1000. The starter is turning but just hums . Is there a gear on top of the starter that could be loose. Also can I use a rope to start this model

did you have the battery disconnected? beleve it or not it is possible to connect the battery the wrong way and the starter will just spin the wrong direction. this will cause the starter gear to not engauge with the fly wheel. also on a lawn tractor the battery wont blow up if connected the wrong way.

My car wont turn over, just clicking.

The starter solenoid, it's usually mounted on the inner fender well. The positive cable is connected to one side of it, and on the other side the cable runs down to the starter. To make sure, use a screw driver or a piece of wire and jump the circuit from the small wire connected on the solenoid to the positive cable connection, if it starts, the solenoid is bad.

Ride on lawnmower isnt starting.

You may have a bad starter - the solinoid is "clicking" but not engaging. Remove the starter and clean it up and connect it to 12 volts to check if can turn. If not then buy a new starter and replace it out.
