Hi ! Thank you for your repley I have checked the thermal fuse that the S/M speaks of on page 96 Reference #107 Thermostat 157695111 and I get continuity, if it was bad would it not be open. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 11, 2010

Good Morning Ladywinn ! Thank you for your time to help. No the lamp has not been replaced and the fans do not run. When I plug it in and hit the power switch I hear (1) click then the power light blinks (4) times green the turns red and blinks 6 times other than that it's all dead. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 12, 2010

Thank you again I will remove the light engine in the AM. I have checked the thermal fuse and it is not open. Can you point me in the right direction on where to take the reading on (B) board. Thank you. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 12, 2010

Hi! Yes I can solder big and small. High voltage does not bother me I just finished installing a 10 K solar system on my house. My elctric bill is $8.20 a month forever . How do we start fixing my Sony.... Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 12, 2010

    Yes I do.

  • halbarb2 Nov 13, 2010

Hi! Eagle 338 Let me jump ahead a little, in between postings I pulled the light engine out and the bulb looked good but when I checked the bulb for continuity it was open. I ordered a new light engine and it will take about 4 or 5 days for delivery so before I do anything else I should wait and see if it works. Any thoughts. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 13, 2010

Thank you for your advice. I removed the light engine the bulb looked good but when I checked it for continuity it was open. I tried to order a new one from Mats Electronics but they said they don't sell bulbs for Sony????? I orderd one from Bulbs Outlet.com. $113 free shipping should get it in 4 or 5 days. I hope that takes care of the problem. .....As a side note before I decided to try and fix it myself I took the TV into a local Tv repair, they said they had to replace the SWITCH MODE what ever that was for about $320 PARTS AND LABOR before they could check the light engine. If they had to replace the light engine it would be another $4or 5 hundred or so.Think they were ripping me off ? Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 19, 2010

Hi. eagle338 I replaced the light engine still get 6 red blinks. Where are the capacitors 515 516 and 1C206 located. Thanks Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 19, 2010

Hi ladywinn. I did just change the bulb, to no avail. Where is the point I need to take the reading to make sure I have 5 volts on the fuse, are you talking about the fuse that is above power cord on (G) board or the thermal fuse that is on the lamp block assy? Do you live in the US and do you have a phone # that I could call you. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 19, 2010

Hi ladywinn One of the other techs said the problem is 3 components capaciators 515 516 and IC110 any thoughts about that. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 19, 2010

HI eagle 338 Can you download the service manual with this? Hal
I had to upload it again. The new link ishttps://www.yousendit.com/download/dklyU...

No! with the swicth on I get .005 we are talking about the fuse on page 18 top picture #4

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

when I check it with OHM meter I get continuity and I tried taking the wires off and jumped the wires it diden't make any diference. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

with the OHM meter set on 2K. I get .002

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Hi, Still working on it . With the TV plugged in and the switch on I get .005 volts AC on the thermal fuse terminals I tried jumping the fuse and nothing happens. Still get 6 red blinks. Thanks Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Can I check that without taking the board out?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

    What page in S/M shows the (B) board. I see (G) board (U) board (K) board ?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Just checked, power on thermal fuse terminal show 5.3 volts DC.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

OK I can do that, it will take while to get it out Thanks. Hal PS. do you have name other than eagle338 ?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Hello Prasad It's good to know you . I have 5 posts since I started to take the (B) board out but the last one I could open was the one with your name .I have the (B) out and the metal cover off now I have to connect it back up and then what do I check. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad are we looking on the top or the bottom of (B) board

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

    I found IC3002 now you say pin # 129?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

    Presad I can find #132

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

    I found the pins 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad After I test for 10.5 v on pins 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

not yet I have to connect all back together. Prasad what time is it India right now.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Yes I tested it and no 10.5 v on 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

I'm going to test once more to make sure.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

tested again no voltage on pins 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Hi Again Thanks for your information. I just finished checking the IC3002 pins #126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad! For some reason I'm not able to open your posts the last one I got from you was remember to check across 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad! Thank you for all your help tonight . My eyes are very tired and it's late here. Looking for those numbers on (B) board wiped me out for now, as much as I would like to finish I can't. Let me know what you think is next. Again thank you. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad! Good morning from Arizona, US.. Good evening to you India. It is 8:18 am here

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

    No fans are running.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad ! The only thing that runs when I hit the power switch is a relay clicks and the 4 green blinks and the 6 red blinks , no fans, no light, nothing.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

my S/M is in black and white .Are you talking about the top picture on page 18 #4 circled

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

So with no 10.5 v DC on pins 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

I had that out and checked continuity ,I even put a jumper wire on the terminals and it didn't make any difference.

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad! If I disconnect the the thermal fuse and jump the connector wires together and then check the voltage on 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

If I am reading it right one pin of the 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

OK I'm going to jump the thermal fuse and recheck the volts at 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

OK with the fuse jumped I get no voltage at pins 126

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

OK With no voltage on the pins and the fuse is jumped does this indicate that the (B) board is bad? Thanks Have a good nap. Hal

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

OK I hope you had good nap. I jumped the fuse and rechecked the pins still no voltage at the pins so after all this, do we say the (B) or (G) board is bad? What do you think?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Last week another tech told me to check the AUDIO IC can we do that?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad , Where would we check to see if we get 10.5v on the (G) board?

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

The 10.5v source from the main switching supply generated on the G board is monitored for under-voltage. The circuits Monitoring this Voltage line are Located on the B board. This Sympton ia usally Caused by a failure of the main switching Regulator to run ,Such as a Main converter or main relay Failure. The Most Common Cause is the Thermal Fuse Opening on the Lamp Chamber Housing which causes a Loss of the STBY 5 Volts to the Main Relay. If the 5 Volts are present, then replace the G board. .

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad ! Dose that last post make sense the (G) board is the culprit???

  • halbarb2 Nov 20, 2010

Prasad ! With the TV plugged in and in standby mode. We have 4.9 volts on both sides of the thermal fuse.

  • halbarb2 Nov 21, 2010

    G-Board Part # A-1175-974-A

  • halbarb2 Nov 21, 2010

Thank you Prasad I will order it in the AM.

  • halbarb2 Nov 21, 2010

Prasad! I will keep you informed of what happens when I install the new (G) board. It has been a pleasure working with you I feel like we are old buddies after all this. Who compensates you for your time and expertise? It sounds like you work out of your house do you? Hal

Hi:
This error code is a result of a failed Thermister, the thermal resistor acts like a fuse but detects overheating in the lamp compartment. You will need to call a servicer to replace as it will require the taking out of the optics engine assembly, or light engine. When this parts opens, it signals the microprocessor that the termister is open resulting in 6 blinks on the LED.

    HI:
If you have the service manual then check the error code listings this should give you a direction to go, but in my experience the 6 blinks is a open thermister remem take the thermister out and check it

  • Lavell Turner
    Lavell Turner Nov 12, 2010

Also check the 10.5 volts to the aution portion of the B board

Hi,
6 times red light blink indicates problem of 10.5V for Audio IC located on B board.
Please check 10.5V at G Board that goes to audio IC.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

10.5V are DC volts, if you get 10.5V from power supply board then check Audio IC as service manual indicates 6 times blinking is related with missing 10.5V DC or Audio IC is bad.
    Thanks.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Nov 20, 2010

10.5V DC will appear for moment before tv shuts down and start blinking, if you do not get these volts then swap power supply board in working tv of similar model (if it is possible) to make sure power board is bad then order replacement power supply board.

You have a problem with these 3 components in your set,. Capacitors 515, 516 and IC206. How good are your electronics/soldering skills? If you are good at working on PCBs and know how to solder then I can guide you with this repair. Otherwise I would say let the experts handle it as you would not want to play with high voltage circuits. I am talking about several thousands of volts.

    eagle338 Nov 12, 2010

Ok. Since you have the service as well may I assume that you already have access to B board?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 13, 2010

And do you get 3.15A on the fuse? Whats the status of IC 110(thermal sensor)?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 13, 2010

You have ordered the neire light engine? THat must be damn expensive. Well that should solve the problem alright.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 19, 2010

I have accidentally deleted some of my schematics files a couple of day ago. Can you upload the service manual to mediafire.com and get me the link?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 19, 2010

Its not very hard, you just have to hit the upload button on the site , browse for the file and hit the beging button. Wait for it to complete and click on the share button. You will see a link that can be copied. Just get me that link and we will be on our way to fix this baby.

    Got it. Downloading now...

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. SO did you test the thermal fuse and is it ok? Do you get 10.5V?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Well then its confirmed that the fuse is burnt. Replace it and see if it resolves the issue. 0.05 means open circuit.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Whats the value of resistance it reads(since its not open)?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. What about the 10.5V at Pin 129 of IC3002 on B-board?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Its on the B-board. It is recommended that you take the board out and replug all the connectors. Then turn it on and check it. The problem is that the pins of the IC are located too close to one another and you do not want to short any two pins, coz its the main processor IC that handles everything else.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

The name's Prasad, Sai Prasad :)

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Sorry about that. That is why it is recommended that you use the "add comment" button under your initial post to reply. I could not see any of the previous 5 posts that you have mentioned. Anyways do you see a large IC with about 150 pins on the B board. Thats the IC 3002. Check the output of pin 129 with respect to ground. It should read 10.5V(DC)

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes the IC has pins at the side right? You should test the voltage between pin 126 and 129(see page 12 of the service manual for a schematic).

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Its 129 not 132. There should be a 129 pin. Otherwise they would not mention it in the schematic. Would they?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok.. DId you test it? Is it 10.5V?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

10:08AM. I guess its close to midnight over there? We can continue in the morning if you want.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Remember you should measure it across 126 and 129.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

yes.Did you test both pins129 and 126? Thats how you should measure. Only one of the pins may not give you a reading. See the diagram on page 12. I was just making sure you did it right.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. We shall continue tomorrow. I am feeling tired as well.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Good morning Hal. Its actuall night 9PM here in India. Can you confirm if all the 4 fans are running?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. I am looking at the B board schematic to see what else can be tested. Please give me a few minutes.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Well I cannot think of anything else. is the fuse you checked the one that the pink connector goes to in the image on 18?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes thats what I am talking about. Coz looking at the schematic, I see that there is nothing else that can cause this problem. I would say that you replace it anyway and see if the problem is resolved.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes thats right. The thermal fuse it what blocks that voltage.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. Trace through all the components on the 10.5V and see where the voltage is being cut off.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Pin 126 alone will not have anything. You should measure 10.5 across both the pins 126 and 129. You will not get the voltage on only one of them

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Ok. Its 11PM here and I am gonna take a short nap. Will be back in couple of hours

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes. I think that would be the way to go. We have literally tried every thing else

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

It is the same 10.5V line that we checked. TV micro performs the functions of the Audio IC. If you see there are some pins that are exclusively for that function

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Actually the 10.5V goes to the Gboard from the B-Board. See B-Board schematic 1/11 extreme right

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Well we did check the thermal fuse. So do you have the 5V?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Yes that very much sounds like the Gboard. SInce you have no voltage even though the fuse is intact.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 20, 2010

Excellent! That confirms it. The G-board is the culprit. Get me the part number and I will see if I can find you one online

Good Morning Hal, I think your problem will be the Lamp, replace the Lamp and this should solve your problem. Part number F-9308-750-0 / XL2400U.
Mats Electronics has Lamps for $99.00 and up they are showing For Lamp only $114.95
    1-800-628-1118
Encompass Parts Distribution has Free Service Manual for this Model and they List the Parts/
    Prices of Parts .
Thank You and have a Nice Day.

If you need to know anything else just asK.

  • ladywinn
    ladywinn Nov 13, 2010

I gave Mats because in my old catalog they do list the sony bulbs for 114.00,What I do is Look on EBay under Electronics /TV Parts type in part number. I got lamp for my TV for $85.00
which is a Samsung, but Prices for Sony is higher.I do Think your right about the TV Shop you carried set to Encompass Parts List the Light Engine /optics Block for $1,869.99 core refund
$799.99 then costing $1,070.00, So if they can get you light engine for $400-500 Id take them up on that! When replacing Light engine all you do is remove the old one and put in the new one. Sony does have worlds record on defective light engines at one Time they were offering free replacement on some Models. Heres so you know for a Fact if you have bad Light Engine Picture will either start having spots appear or a blue or Green shadow on picture
PTS rebuilts optical block 1-800-844-7871 ,anyway lets just wait. for new Lamp and go from there.I think they knew it was only Lamp for Starters, but I do know alot of Sonys didnt show up problem with the Light Engine untill after replacing Lamp. I have a 60 Sony and it does need new lamp and light engine and on Ebay they want over $2,499.00 for this set the cheapest one is $699.00 that I have found.Hopfully all you need is the Lamp, let me know the out come when you get new Lamp.and Thank You for trying FixYa.com we really work hard to help people with their Problems and hopfully we do save customers alot of money when it comes to repairs and Parts.

  • ladywinn
    ladywinn Nov 19, 2010

Hal,In your post you said you replaced Light Engine,I thought you where going to just start out with Lamp and not the whole Light Engine. 6 blinks means that you have a problem in the Thermal Fuse and it is missing the 5 volt Standby which comes from the B board that monitors the voltage to the G board,If the Thermal fuse is OK and has the 5 volt STby on both sides of the fuse, then you need to replace the G BOard PN# A-1175-974-A $113.69

Did You ever Go to Encompass Parts Website and Look up you Model#?

  • ladywinn
    ladywinn Nov 20, 2010

You need to check the thermal Fuse that is located on the Lamp Chamber housing.

4 blinks means Defective fan one of the 4 Fans id defective

5 Blinks: replace the Ballast board

6 Blinks Means The 10.5v source from the main switching supply generated on the G board is monitored for under-voltage.
