Question about GE PDW9280NSS Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

Hi, my Ge profile dishwasher model pdw9280n00ss changes wash modes on it's own. This is a new problem, it was stuck on normal wash for the last year. It screwed up right after the warranty ran out. The start button and the heat all seem to work. I've seen it jump between the wash cycles on it's own while washing . Is it worth fixing, I feel ripped off on this expensive dishwasher!! Thx

SOURCE: start button on the HMI won't work

There is a ribbon cable that connects to the control panel. Mine was operating the same as yours. I opened up the front and reinserted the cable and its been fine ever since. you need to take all the screws out from the door panel inside the washer to geet to it.

SOURCE: DIshwasher Cycle TIme INcreases by 20 minutes over two years

Try cutting the breaker off for 5 min, This will reset the control. The issue is in order for a dishwasher to clean the dishes properly the water in the dishwasher needs to be at least 120 deg f. If its not the dishwasher keeps adding more time with the heater on to try to achieve this temp. The dishwasher only uses about 1 gallon of water per fill so if the water heater is a ways away or the temp is not hot enough, the water temp in the dishwasher will not reach 120.

SOURCE: GE Nautilus won't drain after Rinse Cycle

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.

You have the control lock activated. Press and hold the heated dry pad for 5 seconds and it should unlock it

It is not very unusual to find 120V on the door panel. The voltage is fed straight to the control board from the mains from which it gets distributed to different components like door switch, detergent detector, motors and pumps. The layout is shown on this schematic

It is likely the door switch connection is leaking. You will need to take the multimeter (on ohms setting) and carefully measure the points on different components on the disassembled door panel for short to the panel body. Make sure the dishwasher is disconnected from the mains power.

My GE Profile dishwasher has gone from 56 minutes to 70 minutes to 71 minutes to do a standard wash (checked a couple of times to be sure I had consistent settings). Suggestions as to what has changed.

That is normal. I had a GE Profile dishwasher at my house, and it what it is there is a sensor inside the dishwasher. It senses how many plates you have in your dishwasher and wash according to your size of dishes you have in there.

If it is the last cycle only it is not the pump. It is a wiring or timer issue. Most likely the timer.

Hello, how are you?
It sounds like you have a stuck key on the keypad, preventing you to push any other key.

I've seen this problem many times in the past 4 years.

Good luck.

My ge Profile dishwasher will not drain

HI. check the following areas for fualts.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).....
