Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

I used a GE Helical 13w 12oVAC 60Hz 200mA FLE13HT3/3/SW bulb for the top light in my fridge and it only lasted for about 3 to 4 months. Is this do to the cold in the fridge or maybe the door being opened and closed turning the light on and off more often than a bulb in a table lamp, or could it be just a defective bulb? Should I try another one of this type bulb in my fridge? Thank You for your cooperation in this matter

You should use a standard 40 watt appliance bulb (usually clear). The life of compact florescent bulbs is greatly shortened by turning it on and off frequently. They work best being left on for 15 minutes or longer. Cold temperatures can also shorten bulb life as well.

I can't get the light cover open to replace light bulb , is there a special way to do so?

Yes, there is a special and different way to replace the light bulbs, there are 3 light bulbs on your fridge, besides the dispenser lights. Click on the following link to get an Owners Manual for your unit, look on page 15 for light bulb replacement.

I have a KS38R420GB Siemens larder fridge. In the last few months I have to keep changing the bulb every 2-3days. I am using the correct bulbs. what could the problem be.

The first thing I would do is check the light switch by depressing it with my finger. It may be that the lamp is not turning off when you close the door.

GE GTS20ICNCC Refrigerator light bulb burns out quickly

Use the correct wattage bulbs. If they fail often then you may need to get it checked by an electrician.
Filament bulbs easily burn out. What you can do is to buy cheap bulbs and replace as soon as they burn. This is the problem which is why tube lights and LEDs were invented!

How do I get a stuck light bulb out of the refrigerator?

Simple, use a hair dryer (on high heat) on the base of the bulb for a few seconds. The bulb will come out easy. Cold expands and is what made it stick. This has worked every time for me.

Light bulb replacementR

A fridge light bulb is usually a 40 watt appliance bulb with a screw base. It is heavy duty to last in the temperature. If it is not easily accesible to unscrew and replace, there may be plastic cover to unsnap.
