Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

My Samsung HLP4663WX/XAA has red and green vertical lines across the entire screen. If this is a board problem what's involved in replacing boards and where is a good place to purchase it/them?

Lines are very thin and are spaced approx. .75" to 1.0" apart but evenly spaced

Do you have a Part # for the DMD board, and do you know where I can purchase one and what's involved in replacing it?

  • cdlucero Nov 10, 2010

    Thanks for your help.

A few days ago I requested help on determining the problem with my TV. eagle338 at Fixya.com was extremely helpful in pinpointing the DMD board as the problem. However today I was going to order the DMD board from Samsungparts.com and the sales rep. notified me that the DMD Board (BP96-00678D) does not include the DLP Chip. Since FIxtya.com never mentioned that the DLP Chip might also need to be repaced I'm assuming that I won't need to replace it. However I want to absolutely clear before I order the DMD board.

This is a problem associated with the light engine of the unit, most likely the color wheel and/or DMD board. How thick are the lines?

Thats just what I wanted to know . You have a bad DMD module. The micromirrors are not reflecting light properly onto the color wheel. Replacing it should resolve the problem.

The part number can be found on the board itself. Its always recommended to order by part number as there may be several different versions of the same board. It should cost you around 250$ and is not very hard to replace. There are just a few connectors that have to be remove and the board has to be unscrewed from the chassis.
Part number will be something like BP96-00678D

DMD = Digital Micro-mirroring Device. If this is the DLP chip(manufactured by Texas Instruments) is what you are talking about then yes, it is ON the DMD board.

Samsung TV display has gone out - has audio, but there are vertical, colored lines/bars across entire display.

Call a television engineer. Don't try and fix it yourself it always ends badly and more expensive. Could be a board, a component on a board, a bad connection, or blown capacitors. The course is 2 years full time education.

Tip

CRT projection TV lost vertical drive. Thin horizontal line only.

Your projection TV works but the only visible part is a thin horizontal line across the screen. What happened and how do you fix it?

Your problem is that you have no vertical drive, only a small horizontal line across the screen. In older projection TVs this is usually caused by broken solder joints in the area of the vertical IC and over the entire board. It could also be caused by a bad vertical IC. Let's approch this problem one step at a time.

Disconnect the power. Remove the back cover. Remove the board with the vertical IC which is usually the board with the high voltage transformer on it and it is usually on the right side of most TVs. You can also identify the proper board by looking for and following the wires from the yoke which is on the CRT neck. There should be a yellow, brown, green and red. The yellow and brown are the vertical wires.

Before removing any wires mark them with a sharpie or a label maker. Just make sure that you will be able to reassemble the unit without mixing up any wires.

Usually the board in question is on the right. It will be the one with the flyback on it. The flyback looks like a small cylinder with about 4 large wires coming off of it. They will be red rubber and flexible. One goes to each CRT.

You will need to remove the entire assembly to get to the underside of the boards to solder the unit or replace the vertical IC. Sometimes removing the restraints will allow enough room to flip the board over and do the work without removing all the connectors and removing the board.

Once the underside of the board is exposed, solder all connections on the boards. Be careful not to bridge any connections. Test the unit for proper operation.

If the unit still does not work properly replace the vertical IC. It usually begins with LA followed by 4 digits. It will be in the vicinity of the flyback probably towards the front of the board. The Ic will be attached to a large aluminim heat sink. Make sure that you do not bridge any of the circuits when soldering. Replace the IC, reassemble and test.

If things went well the unit should work ok.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

Vertical lines across my entire screen

My 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV HP-R4252 has a 2" vertical strip of green pixels down the right side of the screen.

My 3 year warranty with Circuit City expires in Nov 2008.. so I hope I'm covered.. can't call until the morning.

Samsung said it might be a logic board problem.. but they want almost $2000 to fix. I might as well buy another TV if Circuit City can't fix it.
