Your probably hearing just the fan. If the primary part, (the magnatron), is bad you'll get no heating. With the cost of microwaves dropping dramatically you may be better off buying a new one, rather than replaceing the magnatron.
BTW, replacing the magnatron is not a DIY job.

It does sound like a relay malfunction or similar switch. Could be repaired but call for a quote or better yet, take it to a repair depot (probably cheaper).

Microwave has power will not start

When you say it just hums, do you mean that it sounds like it is running but isn't heating? Or do you mean that the sound is different from when it normally runs? Is it quieter or noisier than normal? Do you hear the fan running or is that sound missing?
IF it sounds normal (or about the same as when it worked), but it's nust not heating, then it is probably a bad magnetron tube.

Microwave runs but wont heat. sounds a bit labored also while running

The description you provide indicates the magnetron has failed, "heats food" and the labored sound you hear supports that, cheaper to replace.

The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food My microwave is running and sounds like it is working but will not heat up anything.

Hi, Your hi-voltage system has gone bad. The noise you are hearing is the hi-voltage transformer. This has taken the magnetron which does the heating out. The magnetron has a 5 year warranty on it, the rest of these parts only have a year on them. Contact your nearest repair center. Thanks,

No heat

Sounds like your magnetron is not working. I would take off cover (power disconnected) and look for a fuse somewhere where the power cord comes in.

Loud buzzing noise with Whirpool microwave oven when it comes on. All lights, heating and fan seems to work but not sure why loud buzzing. What is the problem?

The loud buzzing you hear is the sound of the magnatron tube. That is what emits the microwave radiation and buzzing should be normal. The mag tube may be nearing its end at witch time you will hear no buzzing and hence no heating of foods. Replacement can be costly depending on the model so most people just opt for a new one. Hope this helps

2 1/4 year old GE Spacemaker XL 1850 Microwave doesn't heat

Check this website:

http://www.partselect.com/microwave+no-heat+repair.htm

It sounds like it is either the power diode, the high voltage capacitor or the magnetron. If it is the magnetron, it may not be worth fixing as these can cost well over $100.

Do you hear a buzzing sound?

Not heating

Assuming the door switches and mounts are okay, it would likely be a bad magnetron, or a bad connection at the magnetron or on the control board. See http://www.gallawa.com/microtech
