You may a bad ground on the power supply board, and this may include a vertical IC that is having problems. Another thing for me to suspect would be the convergence board is on the fritz. At night sometime remove the back cover and see if you can see the ends of the picture tubes are lit while the TV is on. If they are I would say,yes the convergence ICs are bad. And finally , you may a bad small signal board. This is a small card next to the RCA connections and RF connectors inside this TV. This small signal card is quite expensive to replace. Also, this is my first calculation of errors on this unit. The last answer is my best guess. You will have to decide if you really want to repair this. Once again this small signal board is expensive. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

Something easy to try: with set unplugged remove back cover and locate the three large lens (black plastic housings) and clean the lens with either a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on it.

The lens are your light source and if dusty the picture will be darker and look somewhat dull.

Let me know if you have questions.
