Hello; I am John at J D Electronics in Poland, Maine. I have now repaired 9 of this same model in my shop. The set may be dead always or work intermittently. There are 2 versions of this piece of junk, but I have only seen this one. They all have 2 capacitors that fail on the power supply board just above that red chopper transformer. The are labeled C233 and C234. These are 3300 ufd at 10 volts and 105 C temp rating. You can buy these for about $1 each from Digi-Key Electronics plus shipping. There are some cautions worth mentioning. Make sure the set has been unplugged for a day or more before starting the disassembling. It is VERY important to keep the set face down on a soft surface when doing ANY work on the set. This crappy designed set has a glass faceplate that will fall down if you don't have it face down when all the back screws are removed and it is very hard to put it back into position if it falls. The bottom plastic speaker strip has a million screws to remove both from the bottom edge. Then take out all the screws for the metal back and unplug the speakers. The connector wires to the speakers will not just pull off without you pressing on a side release pin for each of the 4 wire- Stupid design again!. If you are not able to solder these parts in , you can send the board to me for $25 labor plus $10 return shipping and $4 for the parts ( or send your own). We accept only cash or USA postal MO. There is NO Warranty on this repair. It is a better than 80% chance this will fix your set. Call me at 207 998 5687 Good Luck! John

I have a Vizio VP322 HDTV10A and the problem i have is when i first turn it on about 3 minutes later it shuts off by it's self. Then when i try to restart it it won't turn on. When it sits for a while turned off ( Cool) Then when i try to turn it on i get a picture again but repeats the Shutting Off Issue again...Maybe it's the same issue with the Capacitors?

John and jbarano, I had the same problems as cowands and replaced the capacitors mentioned. After replacing the capacitors the TV will now turn on (before didn't turn on at all) but now I have the other issue that the TV keeps turning off after being on for a couple of minutes.

    John,

you mentioned there are up to 5 bad capacitors that you have found bad. Do you recall which other ones beside 233

Hello everyone. i too have been working with this problem, i have just discovered a small green push button on the MAIN board right next to the CPU, the chip with the heatsink..
after 5 min the set would shut down like a timer shut off, i pushed the button
and the set came back on, i'm thinkin that there is a problem in the
'computer ' and the set ' thinks ' it's time to go off ??
anyway, after monkeyin with this buttin i can now get the set to stay on for as long as30 min..
try it and maybe we all can figure something out.

When I hit the power button on my 32" Vizio Plasma

Hello,

You have a TV with a failing power supply board. There are parts in the power supply called capacitors that start failing and this causes the power supply to not be able to properly filter the voltages. When you keep turning it on and off the capacitors will finally hold a charge correctly so the voltages will stabilize and the TV turns on ok until the next time you turn it off. As time goes by the capacitors will degrade more until the TV will not work any more. If you can solder then you should be able to repair the TV yourself. We have a page on our web site http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/capacitors/
That explains what capacitors are and how to determine the bad ones that have failed. If you replace the failed capacitors in the power supply then you should have a working TV again.

The tv is 2 years old. it would turn off after turning on by itself. this happened for 2 days. it would stay on afetr you turned it on a couple times. then the next day wouldnt turn on at all

Had the same issue with my Vizio Plasma VP322HDTV10A. At power up it would turn on and off a number of times before it would stay on. In thinking it might be the power cord, I pulled it out and replaced it with a spare I had and it would not power up what so ever. I opened up the case and traced the the internal power coord to it's source and this lead to the main power supply board. I found three capacitors on this board with buldges on them (which the tops of the capacitors should be flat). I found a web side (SHOPJIMMY.COM) which had the parts I needed to repair the TV myself. the following is how much it cost to replace the needed parts

My vizio vp322hdtv10a, when prompted to turn on, turns on then off, turns on then off. This will go on for 3 minutes if I hold the power button until the unit will finally remain on. It started out minor,...

Vizio has been plagued with problems because of cheap capacitors they used in their TV's. The culprit is CAPXON capacitors. As they go bad you will see a bulge on the top of the capacitors, once they totally fail your TV will not turn on at all. When you have time, open the back and inspect the capacitors, looking for the ones that have a bulge. You will need to replace these things, they cost about 50 cents each from places like Mouser electronics. Look for low impedance and same dimensions and capacitor value as the ones that are warping.

After having and fixing the same problem I will not buy vizio again. I would have preferred to just replace the whole power supply on mine, but I found out that you can't get boards unless you want to pay 100++ for used boards. So I just replaced the capacitors that were warping for about 1.50 plus 5.00 for S/H.

When you buy replacement caps, look for caps that are made in USA or Japan.

Vp322hdtv10a vizion tv doesnt power on and prior to keeps flickering on and off

Your power supply board needs to be REPAIRED not REPLACED, replacing the board will just make the problem happen again in two years or less, if you can use a screwdriver you can send me the board and I will repair it for less than it would cost you to do it yourself ($50) with the correct components. Tv it turns on and off for 5 to 10 seconds and it wont turn on at all

This is a classic switchmode power supply shutting down for safety reasons, the TV has detected a fault, and to prevent, fire or explosion,it is shutting down the unit, you will need to get a "Quote" for repair, as there can be many many causes, this is a symptom only.

Vizio TV wont turn on after three weeks no use

My vizio recently did the same exact thing. Vizio sent an HDTV tech out to fix it and it was the power board. He put a new board in (took 15 min) and the tv works like new.

VP322-HDTV10A POWER PROBLEM

Definitely a circuit board failure somewhere in the TV. Most likely a power supply related problem. Since you only had the TV for six months, it should be under warranty. Opening up the TV and playing around with it would void the warranty. And it may get expensive.
